Chapter 164:
The late-autumn night air carried a biting chill. The instant we stepped onto the terrace, a suit jacket still holding his body heat was draped over my shoulders.
Ethan took my hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world. His palm was wide and warm, something that used to make me feel deeply at ease, but now his touch only felt unbearably oppressive.
“Next week, I need to go to Nitesland for work. There’s a ski resort there with beautiful scenery,” he said as we walked. “I’ll take you there for a break. It’ll help take your mind off things. You’ve exhausted yourself over the past few years. We need some time together, just the two of us.”
My first reaction was to turn him down. “I still have a few projects that need to be finished, and Sparkle’s post-production still needs me watching over it.”

“Let your team take care of it.” He stopped walking, turned around, and placed his hands on my shoulders, his tone firm and unquestionable. “Lianne, I’m the one giving you the time off. Who would dare object?”
He was the head of the company. Once he said that, all I could do was lower my eyes and answer quietly, “Alright.”
Deep down, I understood that he was only trying to make amends, using that nearly condescending gentleness to hide his guilt.
As we continued walking, Ethan’s brow drew together slightly. I knew that expression meant he was receiving a message through the mind link.
After ending the link, he said, “It was Liam. He told me he felt sorry for what he said to you. He wants to make a proper apology and asked us to meet him tomorrow evening.”
The moment Liam’s name came up, a dull knot of discomfort formed low in my belly.
That night was the kind of nightmare that refused to let go. Even now, a single thought of it was enough to send a chill down my spine.
But I also knew Liam and Ethan had survived deadly situations together. Inside the pack, he was Voss Group’s most vital ally. If I became the reason their relationship turned sour, Ethan would be the one trapped in the middle.
“Alright, I’ll go.” I raised my head and gave him a calm, effortless smile. “There’s no reason to let it affect your friendship.”
Ethan studied me, something unreadable passing through his eyes, surprise mixed with a trace of gentleness.
His hand closed around my wrist, gripping a little harder. “I’ll call Jeremy and the others over tomorrow night. I’m going to make it known that you’re my mate. No one will be allowed to disrespect you again.”
One brow lifted slightly, but inside, all I felt was cold mockery.
So he was planning to make our relationship public?
Before Ivy returned, the thought of bringing me into his private circle had never once crossed his mind. This late attempt to defend me felt less like comfort and more like a bad joke, medicine delivered only after it no longer mattered.
