Chapter 515:
“These thirty days…” I whispered, half to Tracy and half to myself. “They’re the time I fought so hard for. It’s the only chance I’ll ever have to be with him peacefully. I want to treasure every moment, every second, and keep those memories with me forever.”
I lowered my gaze. “When it’s over, I’ll leave. I’ll finally do all the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’ll start painting again. I’ll design jewelry. I want to become my own person, an independent Lianne. Not someone’s ornament. Not Ethan’s Luna.”
Tracy was quiet for a moment before asking the one question I had hoped to avoid. “And what about Frank?”
At the mention of his name, I closed my eyes and released a weary sigh. “Please talk to him for me,” I said softly. “Tell him to stop wasting his life on me. He doesn’t owe me anything. And he deserves someone who can return his feelings, not someone like me.”
Tracy pressed her lips together. “The thing is, Frank already knows that,” she said. “He knows you’ll never love him the way he loves you. But he’s stubborn.” She rolled her eyes dramatically. “He keeps saying that as long as you’re safe and happy, that’s enough for him. Seriously, why are all of you such hopeless romantics?”
I was about to answer when the sound of hurried footsteps broke the quiet night air.
“Hey! What are you two doing out here so late?”
Jeremy’s handsome face came into view beneath the glow of a nearby streetlamp, irritation written all over his features.
He strode toward us. For a brief moment, his eyes landed on Tracy before quickly darting away. Then he turned to me. “Lianne, Ethan says it’s cold and windy outside. He’s worried you’ll catch a chill, so he told me to bring you back inside.”
After a brief pause, he added awkwardly, “And… he also asked me to conveniently escort Tracy back to her hotel. Apparently, it’s not safe for her to walk back alone.”
I glanced at Jeremy’s uncomfortable expression, then at Tracy’s annoyed face. For some reason, the heavy weight pressing on my chest eased a little.

“Go ahead, Tracy,” I teased, nudging her lightly. “With such a dedicated knight escorting you, I don’t have anything to worry about.”
“I don’t need an escort,” Tracy grumbled as she rose from the bench. Even so, she followed Jeremy without protest.
Remaining where I was, I watched them walk away.
Jeremy strolled at a deliberate, unhurried pace, as if subtly syncing his stride with Tracy’s. Even as she kept muttering complaints beneath her breath, she made no move to distance herself from him.
In the gentle spill of the streetlights, their elongated shadows trailed behind them, and, oddly enough, the two silhouettes seemed to fit together perfectly.
A while later, I returned to Ethan’s hospital room. The quiet atmosphere I had expected was nowhere to be found.
Ethan was sitting upright against the headboard with a laptop balanced on his legs.
A video conference was underway. His deep, captivating voice filled the room as he spoke fluently in a foreign language, effortlessly commanding the discussion.
