Chapter 401:
“Stop!” I quickly blocked his path and wrapped my arms tightly around his waist to keep him from leaving. “Frank, you can’t act recklessly! Silas is still with him. Ethan doesn’t know the truth about Silas yet, but what if we accidentally make him suspicious? What if he uses Silas to threaten me? And if Ivy finds out, what if she targets Silas too?”
The moment Frank heard Silas’s name, he halted.
The fury burning in his eyes slowly faded, replaced by deep sorrow.
“I’m scared of losing you, Lianne.” His voice broke as he muttered, “For the past three years, I’ve stayed with you. I protected you and the children because I believed I was finally strong enough to keep all of you safe. But now, I still have to watch you walk straight back into his world.”
“I’ll protect myself, Frank.” I forced calm and gently patted his back. “I’m not the same Lianne I was three years ago. I’m not that weak woman anymore. Once Silas is safely back with me, I’ll leave immediately.”
In the end, Frank compromised, but only after making one demand I couldn’t turn down. “I’ll allow you to return to his company, but I’m staying here,” he said firmly. “I’ll take you to work and pick you up every single day. Morning and night. As long as you’re within my sight, I’ll know you’re safe. And if anything happens, you contact me immediately.”
The unwavering devotion in his eyes filled me with both warmth and guilt. During these past three years, Frank had sacrificed far too much for me. He had even put aside his own future in the pack just to stay by my side and help me stay hidden from Ethan. I could no longer pretend I didn’t see the weight of everything he had given up.
After taking a slow breath, I lifted my head and met his gaze seriously. “Frank, you can stay and drive me to work. But I have one condition.”
“Tell me. As long as we remain together, I’ll agree to anything.”
“Accept the mate your pack chose for you.” I spoke each word slowly and clearly.

Frank went completely still. The disbelief in his eyes made it seem as though he couldn’t even process what he had just heard.
“You deserve your own family, Frank.” My heart twisted painfully as I forced myself to continue, “You shouldn’t waste your entire life on someone like me. There is no future for us. If you keep sacrificing everything for me, I’ll only feel guilty every time I look at you. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life owing you something I can never repay. Do you understand?”
The room sank into a suffocating silence.
Frank looked at me quietly, his eyes filled with heartbreak, self-mockery, and a loneliness so deep it broke me.
“You really… want me to take someone else as my mate?” he asked at last, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Yes.” I bit down hard on my lip while my nails dug painfully into my palms.
He let out a bitter laugh that pierced through my heart.
