Chapter 249:
A cold, humorless laugh escaped me. If it had been a genuine medical report, how could it have conveniently reached the company and been in Ethan’s hands?
“Noah, there are two things I need you to do for me.” I forced myself upright, voice firm and unwavering. “First, trace who sent that report. I want every detail, surveillance footage, delivery logs, everything. And second…”
I paused, cold sweat forming on my palms. “Help me contact a doctor to arrange an amniocentesis.”
Noah’s head jerked up, his expression full of alarm. “That’s dangerous! What if—”
“No ‘what ifs.’” I cut him off sharply. “I cannot let my child be labeled a bastard before it’s even born. I am certain Ivy is behind this. She refused to be sent away, so now she is trying to ruin me.”

I wanted to clear my name and expose Ethan’s sanctimonious arrogance for the lie it was.
Ethan’s POV
The second Noah burst into my office and told me Lianne was planning to undergo amniocentesis, the pen in my hand snapped straight down the middle.
“Has she lost her mind?” I lurched to my feet, my heartbeat hammering against my ribs.
Amniocentesis… I was aware of the risks associated with that procedure.
Lianne was already in a fragile state, and with the threat of miscarriage hanging over her, she was practically gambling with her life just to prove she had done nothing wrong.
“Alpha, Lianne really does care about you. That is why she is willing to go this far to prove it,” Noah said earnestly. “Please calm down. There could truly be something wrong with that report. Before the truth comes out, please do not wound her more than you already have.”
Calm down?
I sank back into my chair, closed my eyes, and the only thing that came to mind was Lianne’s shattered, desperate screaming from the night before.
I knew I had gone too far. But the thought of her betraying me, of the child in her womb possibly belonging to another man, filled me with a jealousy and rage so savage it tore apart every scrap of reason I had.
“Investigate it.” My voice came out hoarse when I gave Noah the order. “Find out where that report originated and dig up every detail on the person who sent it. And keep watch on the hospital. No one is to perform that procedure on her without my permission.”
The second I finished speaking, I could not stand staying there another moment. I grabbed my car keys and headed straight for the villa.
I had to see Lianne. I had to take her into my arms, even if all I could do was beg her to forgive me.
When I returned, Lianne was sitting by the window with a book in her hands.
The pale afternoon light rested over her colorless profile, making her seem so fragile that one touch might break her apart.
I walked over without a word and rested my hand on her shoulder, brushing it gently with my fingertips.
