Chapter 250:
I said nothing, hoping that small, silent gesture would be enough to tell her I was there.
“Don’t touch me.”
She sensed me almost immediately, and her whole body stiffened.
She raised her hand and struck mine away, her eyes full of naked disgust.
I caught her wrist and dragged her into my arms.
She struggled with all her strength, and every word she hurled at me drove straight into my chest.
I was not going to listen to one more of those merciless words.
My fingers closed around her jaw as I bent down and kissed her hard, almost violently.

My teeth grazed her lips while I forced her mouth open and stole every breath from her lungs.
After fighting me for a short while, she realized how hopeless the difference in our strength was. She suddenly went limp in my arms like a broken doll and let me do as I pleased.
It was only after what felt like an eternity that I finally let her go.
The instant I saw her bruised lips and the hatred pouring from her eyes, something harsh and unsettled twisted deep inside me.
“Lianne, I need to talk to you,” I murmured softly, and there was a trace of pleading in my voice that I barely recognized.
“We have nothing to talk about,” she said with a sneer. Then she shoved me off and caught the railing, trying to head upstairs.
I started after her, but a violent throb ripped through my mind.
It was the mind link.
The instant it opened, Rola’s sobbing voice slammed into my head.
“Ethan, get to the hospital now! Harold collapsed all of a sudden, and the doctors are trying to save him… He may not survive this time…”
My heart dropped, and the blood in my veins went cold.
“I’ll be there right away,” I answered through the link.
“Ethan!” Rola cried, her shaking voice full of warning. “Don’t let Lianne know. Her body can’t take that kind of shock, and before Harold passed out, he kept saying his great-grandchild must not be placed in any danger.”
My eyes lifted to the slender figure standing at the top of the staircase.
Lianne had one hand on the banister, as if she had already sensed that something was wrong, and she turned to look at me.
I balled my hands into fists so hard my nails bit into my palms.
“Something urgent came up at the office. I have to leave.”
After saying that, I could not bring myself to face her eyes. I turned around and ran out of the villa.
I could only hope my grandfather would keep holding on.
Ethan’s POV
The sharp smell of disinfectant filled the hospital corridor, and the red light above the emergency room glared like something merciless.
By the time I arrived, Rola was sitting alone on a bench, her usual grace now crumpled under the weight of it all.
I hurried to her, my throat tight and raw. “How did Grandpa suddenly collapse? He was perfectly fine just a few days ago!”
