Chapter 762:
“At the last minute, Ivy changed her statement,” Tim said through clenched teeth. “She accepted all the responsibility. She insisted she’d used Rola’s connections to obtain the drugs, and that Rola knew nothing about it.”
He burst out, unable to contain his anger, “This is ridiculous! Anyone can see the Thorn Pack interfered behind the scenes. They used their influence to get Rola off the hook.”
“I know,” I answered quietly.
“Lianne, we can’t just accept this! Even if the evidence has fallen apart, we can still file an appeal. Maybe we’ll find a way to turn things around…”
“There’s no need for that, Tim.” I cut him off, my eyes fixed on the gray, gloomy sky outside the window. “I expected this outcome. As long as the Thorn Pack decides to protect Rola, the law becomes nothing but a toy in their hands. Filing an appeal would only waste our time and energy.”
After asking Tim to keep my decision not to appeal a secret, I ended the call.
With trembling fingers, I searched for a number I hadn’t dialed in a long time and called Rola.
She answered immediately, her voice overflowing with arrogance and spite. “What is it, Lianne? Did you call to congratulate me?”
“Rola, let’s meet.” I got straight to the point, my voice cold and firm. “I doubt you want to spend the rest of your life dealing with lawsuits and public scrutiny. I’ll drop the appeal, but first, we need to discuss the conditions.”
Her shrill, grating laughter came through the phone, and I could practically picture the smug smile on her face.

“So you want to drop the appeal? Lianne, have you finally come to your senses?” she mocked. “If you’d figured that out sooner, we wouldn’t have had to make such a huge scene across the city. So tell me, how much do you want? As long as you leave this place and stay far away from Ethan, I’ll give you more money than you’ve ever imagined making.”
I clenched my teeth. Making myself sound weary and defeated, I said, “I’m exhausted, Rola. Let’s meet the day after tomorrow at three in the afternoon. Just the two of us. Come alone, and don’t let Ethan find out. I don’t want him to see me.”
“Relax. I don’t want him seeing you either,” she sneered. Her suspicion seemed to ease, and after letting out a cold snort, she agreed.
I ended the call and fixed my eyes on the bottle of strong vodka sitting on the table. Without a moment of hesitation, I lifted it and took a long drink.
The burning liquor slid down my throat and settled in my stomach like fire, sending painful cramps through me.
Swaying unsteadily, I locked the bedroom door, then hid my phone inside the secret compartment in my wardrobe. I was afraid that once the alcohol took over, I would lose my resolve and call Ethan again.
The next morning, the sunlight pouring through the window stung my eyes the moment I woke.
