Chapter 65:
I tightened my hold, my fingers locking fiercely around her wrist. I watched her face drain of color as pain shot up her arm.
“Let me go, you useless bitch!” she screamed, thrashing like mad.
I bent close to her ear, my voice quiet and deadly. “I can still break your bones. Care to find out?”
When I finally saw real fear bloom in her eyes, I flung her hand away with open disgust.
She staggered backward and crashed awkwardly into the vanity sink.
Having no desire to waste another second tangled up with her, I turned and walked out of the restroom.

I didn’t go back to the table. Instead, I drifted aimlessly through the mall.
The shop windows glittered with exquisite clothes, while couples strolled by hand in hand, their eyes brimming with love too obvious to hide.
And me?
The memories of the last three years came crashing over me—every dream I had given up for Ethan, only for him to repay me by shielding another woman in front of everyone.
My chest clenched so tightly I could barely draw breath. The dull, wrenching ache of the mate bond being tugged back and forth felt as though it were tearing me to pieces.
My phone rang. It was Tracy.
I drew in a deep breath, forcing the shake out of my voice. “Hey, Tracy. Sorry, I bumped into someone I knew and got stuck talking. I’m on my way back now.”
By the time I returned to the table, Tracy had already paid the bill.
As I looked at the expensive luxury purchases piled there, every one of them charged to Ethan’s black card, they felt unbearably glaring.
“Tracy, I want to return all of this,” I said softly.
“What? Why? They look great on you.” Tracy looked utterly baffled.
“I just suddenly feel like these things don’t suit me.” I tossed out a careless excuse.
Refusing to back down, I dragged Tracy back to the counter.
Under the bewildered stare of the sales assistant, I returned every single item bought with the black card.
Then I took out my own card and purchased only the few things I genuinely liked.
At that moment, watching the black card slide back into my bag, I felt lighter than I ever had before.
After I parted ways with Tracy, dusk had already settled in.
It was almost seven.
Standing at the street corner and watching the traffic surge past, I hesitated for a long while before finally flagging down a cab to the theater.
Since I had promised Rola I would watch this ballet, I might as well treat it as the final obligation of this fake mate bond.
At 7:30 PM, the performance began.
The lights in the theater dimmed, and a stream of beautiful music rose into the air.
I sat in the VIP section, with the seat beside me empty—a cruel and bitter joke.
I stared at that vacant place for a long while before a self-ridiculing laugh slipped from my lips.
