Chapter 153:
Since I suddenly had two extra days, going back to that stifling house right away didn’t appeal to me. Instead, I wanted to remain in this unfamiliar place a little longer and give myself some room to breathe.
A moment later, my phone vibrated. Frank had sent a message. “You’re in Gattenwood? Do you have time for lunch?”
His message caught me off guard, so I asked, “Weren’t you supposed to be filming?”
Frank responded almost instantly. “Don’t bring it up. Something happened with Ivy on set, and her fans made a huge scene. The investors got concerned about safety, so production’s on hold for now. I came to Gattenwood to record something, but I’ll be heading back this afternoon.”
“That works. I’m here too,” I replied and chose a restaurant known for being quiet and tucked away.
By the time I arrived, Frank was already there and had secured a private room. As I stepped inside, he had already removed his sunglasses and mask and was scanning the menu.
Soft sunlight streamed through the carved wooden window and settled on him, making him seem more relaxed and easy to approach.

“Come sit. I already ordered your favorites,” he said, pulling out a chair for me. The table was filled with light dishes that suited my taste.
The way he paid attention to such small details warmed me.
During the three years I had spent with Ethan, I always adjusted myself to fit his preferences. Over time, I ended up forgetting what I truly liked.
“How are things with you and Ethan?” Frank asked in a casual tone, but worry showed clearly in his eyes.
For a moment, I stayed quiet before letting out a faint, self-mocking smile. “Let’s drop that topic. Just hearing his name ruins my appetite.”
With a soft sigh, Frank rested his hand over mine. His touch felt warm and steady, easing the tension in me. “Lianne, you’re one of the strongest she-wolves I’ve known. Losing your wolf hasn’t taken anything away from who you are. The Moon Goddess won’t ignore that. Eventually, you’ll find the mate who’s truly meant for you and who knows your worth.”
“Maybe,” I replied quietly, withdrawing my hand and lowering my eyes as I took a small sip of soup.
The idea of a destined mate felt almost ironic. Mine was too busy protecting another woman, and he was the one breaking our bond piece by piece.
Later that day, Frank invited me to watch a movie.
To avoid being recognized, he covered himself completely with a loose hoodie and a black mask that concealed his striking features. We chose seats at the back of a dimly lit theater and watched a slow-paced art film.
Lights from the screen flickered across the space, yet my attention kept drifting away.
Every so often, Frank leaned closer and murmured his thoughts about the story. The clean, grassy scent around him helped drown out the lingering trace of wood that still haunted me.
The following day, we boarded the same flight back to Norvynford.
By chance, our seats ended up beside each other.
