Chapter 768:
Two massive guards seized my shoulders and forced my arms behind my back, their grip firm, leaving me completely helpless.
The guard holding the blade aimed its tip directly at my heart. Without hesitation, he thrust forward.
I stood there, frozen. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t escape.
Slowly, I shut my eyes.

I murmured under my breath, “I’m sorry, Dad. I couldn’t avenge you. Ethan, I’m sorry. Ruby… Silas… I love you.”
I whispered my final farewell in my heart as I waited for the burning pain of the blade piercing my chest.
But it never came.
Instead, I heard the sickening sound of steel cutting through flesh.
A warm, sticky spray landed on my face. It trickled down my neck and soaked into the collar of my red dress.
My eyes flew open.
Ethan had appeared out of nowhere and thrown himself in front of me, taking the fatal strike meant for me.
I couldn’t believe it. He was supposed to be thousands of miles away.
The guard, caught completely off guard by Ethan’s sudden appearance, couldn’t pull the blade back in time. It carved a deep wound across Ethan’s chest, sending blood splattering through the air.
“Ethan!” A scream tore from my throat.
The impact sent us both crashing to the floor. His body fell heavily onto mine, and the overpowering smell of blood instantly swallowed the room.
My hands shook as I wrapped my arms around him. Tears poured down my face uncontrollably, dripping onto his pale skin.
“Why did you come? Why?!” I cried, my heart breaking apart. “Why would you do this again? Have you lost your mind?”
He rested weakly against my shoulder as blood continued pouring from his chest, soaking into my red dress and turning the fabric darker, damp, and sticky.
Gathering the last of his strength, he gave me a faint smile, his long fingers trembling as they gently brushed my cheek.
“I’m fine, Lianne…” he whispered softly. “Don’t cry. You… look beautiful in that red dress.”
Lianne’s POV
“Ethan!”
Rola’s cry ripped through the heavy silence in the dining hall. Panic consumed her as she rushed to Ethan’s side, shouting at the frozen guards, “Hurry! Get him to the pack hospital! Call Melisa right now!”
I instinctively wanted to follow, to hold his hand as it slowly grew cold. But the moment I got close, Rola shoved me back with all her strength.
Hatred blazed in her eyes as she pointed at me. “You bring nothing but disaster! Stay away from him! Every time Ethan is with you, he gets hurt over and over again! Will you only be happy once he’s dead?”
I felt as though my heart was being slowly ripped apart. The pain was so overwhelming I could hardly breathe.
I watched Ethan’s arm hang lifelessly as they placed him on the stretcher. My eyes drifted to the terrible wound slashed across his chest, and my throat tightened. I couldn’t force out a single word to defend myself.
Maybe… Rola was right.
