Chapter 730:
He was a very kind man and deserved the absolute best. At last, he had opened his heart and welcomed someone new into his life.
Immediately, the guilt I had carried for so long felt a little lighter.
Pushing those tangled thoughts aside, I turned my attention back to the endless spreadsheets and pricing charts on my desk.
Numbers didn’t lie. They were far simpler to deal with than relationships.
The afternoon slipped by fast. It wasn’t until lunch break that I picked up my phone and found several unread messages from Tracy.
“Lianne, did you see Frank’s post? Isn’t this way too fast?”

“I think he’s acting on impulse. Besides you, it doesn’t seem like he cares who he ends up marrying. That’s the impression I’m getting. It’s like he’s just settling for whoever’s available. That’s not fair to his girlfriend!”
Lianne’s POV:
I stared at the endless stream of messages from Tracy, my fingers hovering over the keyboard as I let out a quiet sigh.
“Tracy, that’s how relationships work. When two people connect and everything feels right, moving quickly isn’t unusual,” I typed, choosing my words carefully to calm her nerves. “Don’t overthink it. Frank finally found the strength to move on. He deserves a fresh start, and we should be happy for him.”
Her reply came almost immediately. “I know, I know. I’m only saying this to you, I would never tell him any of it. I’m just worried he’s moving too fast. What if he rushes into a mate bond and ends up regretting it for the rest of his life?”
I brushed past her endless fretting. Instead, I reminded her of all the pregnancy precautions she needed to follow. I urged her to stop carrying everyone else’s weight and just focus on herself for once.
After locking my phone, I cleared the clutter from my desk, stood up, and headed for the company cafeteria.
I’d worked through the entire night without eating a single proper meal. The painkillers had dulled the burning in my stomach, but they couldn’t hide the emptiness gnawing at me. If I didn’t force myself to eat something soon, I was certain I’d collapse at my desk before the afternoon was over.
Yet the moment I stepped into the bustling cafeteria, surrounded by laughter and the rich aroma of freshly cooked food, my appetite vanished completely.
The lively crowd felt impossibly distant, as though an invisible wall separated me from everyone else. Mechanically, I picked up a plate of pasta and carried it to the quietest corner I could find.
Just as I sat down, two employees behind me began chatting.
“Have you heard? Alpha’s been working like crazy recently.”
The other man replied, “Yeah. Everyone at headquarters says he’s been closing one massive cross-industry deal after another. They say he’s terrifying in negotiations. Doesn’t he have anyone waiting for him at home? How is he still standing after working himself that hard?”
“I thought his mate was Lianne…”
“Quiet. Don’t let anyone hear you.”
Their words pierced my heart like a blade. The fork in my hand trembled.
