Chapter 658:
Just then, my phone buzzed again. Seeing Frank’s name on the screen, I quickly answered. “I’m sorry, Frank. I got completely tied up with work…”
“It’s okay. I already got the cake you sent,” he said warmly. His gentle voice flowed through the phone like a pleasant spring breeze, and I could hear how happy he was. “It’s my favorite flavor. Thank you, Lianne.”
Feeling slightly embarrassed, I quickly saved my files before replying, “Send me the restaurant address. I’ll finish up here and take a taxi over.”
“That won’t be necessary,” he said with a chuckle. “I’m downstairs at the Voss Group building. The restaurant is a little far, so I figured I’d come pick you up.”
Lianne’s POV:
I stood still for a second, an unexplainable feeling of unease creeping into my heart.
Getting into another man’s car right outside Ethan’s office building made me feel uncomfortable.
Noticing my hesitation, Frank spoke again. “Tracy and Jeremy are already waiting. Tracy was just telling me she’s planning to grill Jeremy tonight on your behalf. If you take too long, she might end up making a scene at the restaurant.”
The moment I heard Tracy was there too, most of my anxiety faded.
I quickly packed up my things, picked up my bag, and made my way downstairs.

The cool evening breeze outside the building helped clear my thoughts.
From across the street, I immediately recognized Frank’s gray sedan. Even in the steady stream of traffic, it was easy to spot.
Frank rolled down the window and waved at me. The glow of the streetlights fell across his face, making his already gentle expression seem even softer.
I took a slow breath before walking toward him.
I jogged across the street, the cold night wind sweeping through my hair.
By the time I slid into the passenger seat, I was slightly out of breath. After fastening my seatbelt, I smiled apologetically. “You really didn’t have to drive all the way here. You could’ve just sent me the address. I would’ve found the restaurant easily with navigation.”
Frank barely said anything. He made sure my door was securely closed, started the car, and pulled away.
A faint scent of fir filled the car, the same clean, calming fragrance that always seemed to surround him.
“Tracy’s been getting restless waiting for us at the restaurant,” he said, keeping his eyes on the road. His voice remained calm but serious. “Lianne, tell me honestly. Is there a reason Tracy and Jeremy got back together?”
My heart skipped a beat, and my grip on my bag tightened.
Frank was much more perceptive than I had ever given him credit for. He knew all about Jeremy’s reputation as a flirt, and he also understood that although Tracy was cheerful and carefree, she would never get back together with Jeremy without a very good reason.
