Chapter 169:
Ethan’s POV:
I waited for Lianne to say something, but when she stayed silent, a strange discomfort settled in.
I knew I owed her, yet her refusal still bothered me. More than that, something deeper stirred, like I might lose my hold on her.
Suddenly, the vibration from my phone broke through the silence.
Using that as an excuse, I got up and stepped out of the room to take the call.
After ending it, I turned back and saw Liam standing nearby with a cigarette in hand.
“What’s your plan here?” Liam asked as he exhaled smoke, his eyes fixed on me.
I didn’t answer. Instead, I leaned against the wall and stayed quiet.
Seeing that I wasn’t going to respond, Liam didn’t hold back. “Ethan, are you really going to keep Ivy as your mistress forever?”

“No,” I said at once, my voice steady.
“No?” Liam’s brow lifted. “Then when are you going to end things with Lianne? She already signed the Rejection, didn’t she? And you know Harold’s condition. His heart isn’t good. You need to give him an answer.”
“That’s enough,” I said, cutting him off. “I have nothing to do with Ivy. There won’t be anything between us moving forward.”
Shock showed on Liam’s face. “What are you talking about? Nothing to do with her? Ethan, have you lost your mind? You made it obvious when you brought her to meet us. You never denied anything even after the media kept taking pictures. Wasn’t that your way of telling everyone you wanted to get back with her?”
When Ivy first came back, I thought the same. She was my first love. She was also the one who saved me back then.
I believed I still loved her. But somewhere along the way, that changed.
Feelings were never simple, but one thing had become clear to me.
“I’m not ending things with Lianne,” I said, making each word count.
Liam stared at me, his expression shifting as if he didn’t recognize me anymore.
I reached out and tapped his shoulder, letting him know those thoughts he had were already behind me.
As for Ivy, I had already made my stance clear. Whether she stayed here to continue her career or left the country again was her decision, but I wouldn’t promise her anything anymore.
“Have you lost your mind?” Liam stepped closer, blocking my path as he looked straight at me. “Ethan, are you really breaking up with Ivy? She saved you. You waited all these years for her.”
“I’ve already decided,” I said firmly.
“Then tell me this,” Liam insisted. “Do you love Lianne?”
For a brief moment, my gaze shifted, and something tightened in my chest.
If I was being honest, I didn’t have an answer. All I knew was that over the past three years, she had become part of my life without me noticing.
Every morning, I was used to the way she tied my tie. I was used to the faint scent she carried, the one that kept me steady.
