Chapter 176:
The bathroom was thick with steam, and the frosted glass showed the blurred outlines of bodies tangled together.
The sound of running water, ragged breathing, and his low murmurs mixed together.
He was like a beast that had been starved too long, taking more from me over and over again.
I cried and begged him to stop, but he only murmured against my ear, “Just once more, baby. I’m almost there.”
The next morning, sunlight slipped through the curtains and fell across the rumpled bed.
My whole body ached so badly that even lifting a finger felt difficult.
When I turned my head, I saw Ethan lying beside me, his sleeping face peaceful and strikingly handsome.
My eyes dropped to his bare chest, where several scratch marks ran across his skin. I had left them there after losing control last night.
There were also several hickeys in different shades scattered along his neck, so obvious they were impossible to ignore.
My thoughts were in complete chaos.

I had already told myself I was leaving him. I had even signed that Rejection. So why was it that the moment he got even slightly closer, all my self-control fell apart?
The way our bodies fit so perfectly together felt like a vicious joke aimed at my pride.
And yet I had to admit that I had enjoyed the fierce closeness of last night.
The way he had treated me as if I were something treasured almost made me believe there had never been any cracks between us.
“Why is your face so red this early in the morning?”
At some point, Ethan had already woken up. He slipped an arm around my waist and pulled me into his arms, his voice lazy and husky with sleep.
I turned my face away, unwilling to deal with him, but the heat in my cheeks only grew worse.
“Last night was a mistake,” I said through clenched teeth.
“A mistake?” He gave a low laugh, his warm breath brushing the edge of my ear. “I wouldn’t mind making more mistakes like that from now on.”
After breakfast, we went to the office together.
It might have been the most peaceful morning we had shared in the past three years.
No arguments. No Ivy.
At the elevator, people were constantly coming and going.
Right before the doors shut, Ethan suddenly reached out and took hold of my hand.
I flinched and immediately shook him off, afraid someone from the office might pass by and notice.
“Have you lost your mind? This is the office!” I hissed under my breath.
Ethan, though, looked completely unconcerned, one brow lifting slightly, a trace of unreadable emotion in his face.
“Lianne.” Just as we were about to split off and head to our own offices, he suddenly called my name.
“What is it?” I paused.
“Don’t go back to your office yet.” He looked at me, his expression turning grave. “Wait outside my office. There’s something important I need to deal with.”
