Chapter 967:
He blinked, surprised. Holding his hand even more firmly, I continued, speaking each word with total honesty. “A long, long time ago, I reached the point where I couldn’t live without you. You saved me, protected me from every storm, and told me you loved me. My heart is completely yours.”
Silence filled the car.
He didn’t answer. But I noticed his grip tighten around the steering wheel, and his Adam’s apple moved as he swallowed.
The traffic light turned green. He pressed the accelerator, and the car glided smoothly through the intersection.
After a long silence, he finally spoke. His voice was rough with emotion. “Lianne, do you know how badly I wanted to pull over and hold you the moment you said that?”
My face instantly grew warm. I turned my head toward the window, but I couldn’t stop smiling.

Lianne’s POV:
Melisa was quick to act.
Before long, she contacted me and sent over a list detailing the compensation she was offering. I opened the file and saw several properties along with a substantial amount of money. The offer was certainly generous, but the way she presented it dripped with condescension, as if she were generously granting me a favor. Her accompanying message made her intentions even clearer. She told me, in essence, to stop pushing my luck and stop bothering Ethan. Her message left me so frustrated and in disbelief that I actually laughed.
I immediately called her back. As soon as she answered, I unleashed my anger. “Melisa, what is the meaning of this? Are you tossing me a few scraps and expecting me to be grateful? You shamelessly took Ethan away from me, but now you’re pretending to be the innocent party, acting like some gracious victim while making me out to be the problem. You’re quite the actress, aren’t you?”
Her voice instantly became cold. “Lianne, I’ve already offered you far more than I needed to. Don’t take my generosity for granted.”
“Generosity?” I gave a scornful laugh. “Let me remind you of something. You’re the one asking me to step aside. I haven’t begged you for anything. If you actually want to negotiate, then start by changing that attitude. Otherwise, we have nothing to talk about.”
She said nothing for a while. When she finally responded, she spoke with clear irritation. “Then what exactly do you want?”
“I want basic respect,” I replied calmly. “Don’t speak to me as though you’re dismissing some beggar at your doorstep. Once you’ve learned how to show some courtesy, we can have this conversation.”
Then, I added casually, “I’ll contact you later.”
I ended the call before she could say another word. Then I turned around and threw myself into Ethan’s arms, immediately dropping the intimidating front I had put on.
I buried my face in his chest, my voice muffled against him. “Ethan, what are you planning to do next? I’m really scared you’ll put yourself in danger.”
He held me close and placed his chin on my head. His voice was calm and reassuring. “Don’t worry. You’re the one facing most of the danger this time, so I’ll be extremely careful. Every step I take will be measured and well thought out. I’ll make sure nothing goes wrong.”
