Chapter 528:
All I wanted was to spend these remaining twenty-something days quietly beside Ethan, making up for at least a fraction of everything we had lost over the years.
I refused to think about what came after. Because whenever I imagined the future, it always ended the same way. In separation.
“Why are you sitting out here by yourself? The weather is still a little chilly.”
A soft, gentle voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked up and saw Melisa approaching along the shaded pathway, carrying a medical bag.
Today, she wasn’t wearing her usual white coat. Instead, she had on a simple beige cardigan. Her long hair was loosely pinned at the back of her head. There was something effortlessly refreshing about her presence, as though she carried light wherever she went.
Lianne’s POV:
“I just wanted a little fresh air,” I replied, forcing a small smile onto my face.
Instead of leaving, Melisa crouched before me.

She carefully rolled up the leg of my pants and inspected the fading bruise on my knee.
“It’s healing nicely, but you still have to be careful,” she reminded me, gently pressing the area. “You only recently regained the ability to walk after your injury. Don’t stay on your feet for too long.”
As I watched the concern and kindness in her expression, I felt an inexplicable sense of closeness to her.
Melisa was exceptional. As one of the pack’s rare master healers, she not only had incredible medical skills but also carried a natural warmth that made people trust her easily.
“Melisa,” I blurted out, “do you like children?”
She paused briefly, then smiled widely. “Of course I do. Every child is a blessing from the Moon Goddess. And with bloodlines as powerful as yours and Ethan’s, your kids must be absolutely adorable.”
I paused for a moment, then asked softly, “Have you ever been in love with someone?”
Melisa paused for a second. She considered the question carefully. Then she shook her head and answered honestly, “I always thought love was a distraction. I would rather spend my time in the laboratory researching herbs.”
She raised her head and met my eyes. “But then I saw you and Ethan. I watched him risk everything for you, and I watched you stay beside him day and night while he lay unconscious. That’s when I realized love can change people. It can soften even the coldest Alpha, and it can give a woman strength she never knew she had. I have to admit, it touched me.”
A knot formed in my chest, and I felt uneasy.
Then she said playfully, “If I ever decide to find a partner, I think I’d want someone like Ethan. A loyal, strong, dependable man. The kind of man who wouldn’t allow anyone to come between him and the person he loves.”
My grip tightened around the edge of the bench.
Rola’s words suddenly echoed in my mind. She had once wanted Melisa and Ethan to end up together.
Melisa came from a prestigious family and had the backing of powerful witches. She was talented, respected, and could give Ethan stronger descendants.
