Chapter 891

Chapter 891:
I simply didn’t have the energy to bother myself with someone else’s relationship. Mine was falling apart right before my eyes. Tracy apparently didn’t catch the lack of interest in my voice and continued with her analysis. “I always knew those two wouldn’t make it. Frank has always had feelings for you. They probably broke up because of you. Be careful, though. Don’t pick up calls from unknown numbers. You could get yourself into trouble.”
I leaned back against the couch, giving a brief response. “I understand.”
There was a brief pause before Tracy said in a serious tone, “Something is wrong. Your voice doesn’t sound right. What happened?”
I stayed quiet for a while. There was no point hiding it from her. In the end, I confessed, “Ethan and I had a little argument. He is upset with me.”
“What did you two fight about?” Tracy’s voice immediately became louder. “Was it Melisa? I knew that woman was trouble. She must have deliberately gotten between the two of you!”
Instinctively, I defended Ethan. “No. He doesn’t like Melisa.”
Tracy scoffed. “Maybe he doesn’t like her, but that doesn’t mean she won’t throw herself at him, right? Think about it. The elders of the Thorn Pack have always favored Melisa. And now that Rola is gone, she stays beside Ethan while he’s at his lowest. Do you honestly think she would let an opportunity like that slip away?”
My fingers tightened around the phone.
Suddenly, I remembered the perfume lingering on Ethan’s clothes the other night. It was Melisa’s signature scent. The thought hit me like a ton of bricks. All the excuses I had clung to, the ways I had reassured myself that he was only meeting her because of the antidote and that he must have his own reasons, began to fall apart in that moment.

“Lianne? Are you still there?” Tracy’s voice brought me back to myself.
“I am,” I answered, my voice slightly rough. Still angry, Tracy said, “I’ll have Jeremy look into what Ethan has been doing lately.”
“No!” I stopped her immediately. “Tracy, don’t. I don’t want everyone knowing about our problems. If this gets out of control and things reach a point of no return, Ethan might refuse to come back even if he changes his mind, just because of his pride.”
Tracy fell silent for a few seconds, then let out a resigned sigh. “You really are too forgiving when it comes to him.”
I lowered my eyes, unable to deny it.
After ending the call, I remained on the couch, staring blankly into the distance as countless thoughts raced through my mind.
Melisa’s face, Ethan’s cold eyes, and the lingering scent of perfume on his clothes kept flashing through my thoughts.
I shut my eyes and drew in a slow, deep breath.
I told myself that I had to trust Ethan. He had never given in to temptation before, so there was no reason to believe he would do so now.
He was simply overwhelmed by his grief after losing Rola. Once he managed to accept her death, perhaps everything between us could gradually return to normal.
I opened my eyes and watched the daylight outside the window grow brighter.
Over and over, I reminded myself of the same thing: I had to trust him. That was my only choice.
