Chapter 198

Chapter 198:
I gave a small nod, my voice steady. “You’re right. Feelings aren’t something that can be forced.”
Ava blinked, clearly caught off guard by my response.
A crease formed between her brows before she shifted into a more serious tone. “Since you understand that, you should walk away. At least keep your pride intact. Don’t wait until you’re pushed out, that would only make it worse.”
I looked at her and let out a soft laugh. “You should be telling Ivy that instead. No matter how strong those feelings are, they mean nothing. She has no rightful claim, so she’s nothing more than a mistress. Dignity belongs to those who value themselves, not to someone who claws her way upward through self-destruction.”
Ava’s face flushed with anger, her expression turning rigid as she prepared to snap back, but the hospital room door swung open.

Ethan stepped out. His eyes found me by the window at once, and the tension in his expression eased just a fraction.
He walked over and reached for my hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world, but the lingering warmth from Ivy made my skin crawl.
“Come back with me,” he said quietly.
At that very moment, Ivy’s cries erupted from inside the room again, the crash of objects breaking through the air along with the startled voices of the nurses.
Ava hurried forward, attempting to stop him. “Alpha, Ivy’s condition is still unstable. Maybe you should stay with her.”
Ethan cast her a frigid glance. The cold in his eyes silenced her instantly, and she stepped back without another word.
He ignored the chaos unfolding behind him entirely. Tightening his grip on my hand, he led me away, pulling me with him as we headed downstairs.
Lianne’s POV:
The automatic gate at the hospital exit lifted at a measured pace, and the sleek black Rolls-Royce eased forward, slipping out onto the road.
I reclined against the leather seat, my eyes tracing the passing streets outside the window, my thoughts suspended in a dull, empty haze.
What had just unfolded in Ivy’s hospital room lingered like a grotesque dream, pressing heavily against my chest until breathing itself felt difficult.
The car was about to join the main road when, without warning, the driver hit the brakes hard.
The sudden force sent me pitching forward, only for the seatbelt to snap me back sharply into place.
“What’s happening?” Ethan’s voice cut through the air, cold and sharp.
I looked up and froze instantly.
A crowd had appeared as if out of nowhere, closing in like predators drawn to blood.
They blocked the front of the car, cameras raised like weapons, flashes bursting wildly against the windshield, blinding and relentless.
“Lianne, come out and clarify your relationship with the Alpha!”
“Are you here because Ivy attempted suicide?”
I stared at the chaotic swarm outside, a sudden, irrational dread tightening around me.
“Keep going,” Ethan said, his expression dark and foreboding. “Whatever gets damaged, I’ll cover it.”
His tone wasn’t raised, yet it carried an unyielding finality.
