Chapter 897:
I stood there, watching until he vanished around the corner. I was completely stunned. Without another word, I stepped into the elevator.
The moment the doors slid shut, I pressed my back against the cold metal wall and closed my eyes. It felt as though my entire world had plummeted into an abyss. I left the company and returned to the tiny apartment I’d rented before. As I stepped inside, a fragrance, both known and foreign, washed over me.
The apartment was diminutive, barely four hundred square feet, furnished with little more than the bare essentials. Yet once, this modest place had been my safest harbor, a sanctuary from the chaos beyond its walls.
I sank onto the old sofa, ready to finally let everything spill out.
But I sat there for what felt like an eternity, and all I felt was a dry, burning ache behind my eyes. Not a single tear fell. All that remained was the sheer, suffocating absurdity of everything that had just happened.
Lianne’s POV:
The shrill sound of my phone ringing tore through the silence of the room.
I reached for it and glanced at the screen. It was Tracy. I drew in a slow breath before answering, forcing my voice to remain as composed as possible. “Hello?”
“Lianne, Frank’s leg still hasn’t completely healed, so he’s going overseas for treatment.” Tracy sounded unusually subdued. “I went to the hospital to see him today. Physically, he’s doing alright, but he seemed a little depressed when he brought up his departure.”

My fingers tightened around the phone. I murmured, “I hope he gets better soon.”
There was a brief pause before Tracy changed the subject. “By the way, how are things with you and Ethan? Are you two in a better place now?”
My heart clenched. Without thinking twice, I lied. “Yeah, we’re much better now.” I deliberately made my voice sound relaxed. “He’s just been under a lot of pressure lately. He’s been busy and hasn’t been in the best mood, but I’m sure he’ll be fine once things settle down.”
Tracy seemed to accept my explanation. Relief was evident in her voice when she spoke again. “That’s what I thought. I told you, Ethan is just going through a difficult period. You know how much he cares about you. He’ll come around eventually. You just need to give him some time.”
“I know.” The words came out softly, even though my heart had already gone cold. Neither of us spoke for a few seconds. Then I couldn’t hold the question inside any longer. “Tracy… do you really think Ethan and I might actually end things for good?”
She immediately dismissed the possibility. “How could that happen? Ethan would never abandon you or the children. And you’re his fated mate. Even if you can’t trust yourself right now, you should at least trust the Moon Goddess.”
Her certainty should have comforted me. Instead, it only made the thoughts swirling through my head even more tangled.
