Chapter 737:
Using the project as an excuse, he’d asked if we could meet privately to go over a few questions.
A flicker of annoyance crossed my face. I typed a brief reply. “All relevant notes have already been included in the project files. If anything remains unclear, we can review it together in Alex’s office.”
Lianne’s POV
When Damien realized I was deliberately making sure we were never alone together, he finally stopped pressing the issue and let it go — at least for the time being.
I had dealt with enough of these self-proclaimed elite werewolves to understand exactly how they operated.
Other than Ethan, I had never been comfortable spending time alone with any man. There was no reason to send the wrong message or let anyone believe they had a chance.
I assumed my distant attitude would be enough to discourage Damien, but I had forgotten that a werewolf’s instinct to pursue what he wanted ran deep.

The next morning, Damien arrived looking as though he had carefully prepared for the occasion. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, and the sharp scent of woody cologne lingered around him as he knocked on my office door.
I could not deny that he was very handsome. He exuded confidence and maturity.
Even so, no one could ever take Ethan’s place in my heart.
It did not matter that Ethan was now far away in Nshire, or that we no longer spoke to each other. His place in my life was so irreplaceable that every other man seemed ordinary by comparison.
Damien walked in carrying a stack of questions, claiming he needed my guidance. But as I turned the pages, I saw that every single answer had already been clearly explained in the notes I had prepared. Anyone willing to put in even the slightest effort could have figured them out on his own.
I lost my patience.
“Mr. Hinchcliffe.” I shut the folder and lifted my eyes to meet his. My voice was calm, cold, and completely devoid of emotion. “The answers you’re looking for are clearly explained on pages three and seven of the handover documents. The fact that you’re asking me something so obvious makes me question whether you’re capable of handling this position — unless, of course, you’re intentionally using this as an excuse to bother me.”
I paused briefly, watching his expression freeze, then added, “Either way, if I bring this to the board’s attention, it would be more than enough reason for you to be removed from the Voss Group.”
His composure cracked instantly, and he scrambled to defend himself. “I only wanted to make sure everything was completely correct…”
“If you have any questions in the future, direct them to Alex first,” I said, making my position clear. “I have work to do now. Please excuse me.”
He stood rooted to the spot, his polished facade finally slipping.
