Chapter 214:
“Nothing between you?” Rola cut across me with open contempt, as though I had said something absurd. “You spend all your time at her side, you go everywhere with her, and for her sake, you even shamed your own mate in public. And you call that nothing? In the world of werewolves, an emotional betrayal is even worse than a physical one. Anyone looking at the two of you would misunderstand. What did you expect Lianne to think? And what do you think the pack will think of her as Luna?”
I said nothing.
For the first time, something close to confusion stirred inside me.
I had always thought that as long as I never crossed the final boundary, as long as I did not have sex with Ivy, then it could not be called betrayal. But looking at the fury on my grandmother’s face, I suddenly understood that the “nothing” I had been insisting on had probably already wounded Lianne far more deeply than I realized.
“Where is she?” I asked again, and this time, there was the faintest edge of panic in my voice.
“I sent the driver to take her away.” Rola shot me an irritated glare. “By now, she should be arriving at the underground parking garage. Ethan, let me make one thing clear, Lianne has made up her mind to leave this time. If your grandfather hadn’t collapsed so suddenly, the two of you would most likely already have ended things for good.”

She had made up her mind to leave.
The words struck me with brutal force.
I did not speak again. I turned on the spot and headed straight for the elevator.
The descent felt unbearably slow, every second feeding my agitation. Arthur thrashed violently inside me, desperate for the scent of his mate, driven nearly mad by the thought of losing her. “Go to her. Don’t let her leave!”
My mind filled with the memory of Lianne’s bare body in my arms, and I could still recall the satin softness of her skin.
Her clean, sweet scent. Her uneven breathing. Her beautiful eyes.
I could not let her leave.
Lianne’s POV
I moved quickly through the underground garage, wanting nothing more than to get away as fast as I could.
Ethan caught up to me, seized my wrist without preamble, and said, “Come back with me.”
I didn’t resist. I didn’t even waste breath arguing.
By then, struggling felt utterly meaningless. I only wanted everything to end as soon as possible.
He led me to the car, yanked open the passenger door, and motioned for me to get in.
Once inside, the silence between us turned thick and oppressive.
“Ethan.” I watched the streets slipping away beyond the windshield, my voice low. “Are you staying late at work again tonight?”
His gaze stayed on the road ahead. “Why?”
“There’s something I need to say to you.” I drew in a slow breath, trying to steady the pounding in my chest. “We’ll talk when we get home. I’m afraid something might happen on the way if I tell you now.”
Without thinking, I shifted my hand to protect my lower abdomen.
In the condition I was in, I couldn’t risk any jolt or disturbance, not even for the sake of this child who was fated to enter the world without a father.
Ethan shot me a glance, something unreadable flickering through his eyes, and then silently pressed harder on the accelerator.
