Chapter 346:
The moment he saw the table filled with expensive seafood dishes, he visibly froze. “Oh wow…” he blurted out awkwardly. “This is way too much. I only did a small favor.”
“I’m truly grateful,” I replied sincerely with a smile. “If you hadn’t helped me last night, I honestly don’t know what might have happened.”
I invited him to sit before personally pouring him a glass of wine. “May I ask your name?”
“Just call me Jon.” Jon rubbed his hands awkwardly before explaining honestly, “It was really just a coincidence. I happened to be bringing one of my old classmates to Queen District for some errands. Ever since the accident before, I have been feeling guilty about it. Then, when I saw your message saying you were at the restaurant, I thought I’d stop by to check on you.” He scratched his head. “I just didn’t expect to find you unconscious outside the restroom.”

Hearing him casually mention the classmate as well immediately erased the last trace of suspicion in my heart.
“I really appreciate her helping me change my clothes last night,” I said sincerely. “Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have been able to sleep while smelling like alcohol.”
Jon waved his hand dismissively. “When young women go out at night, especially alone, you really need to stay careful,” he advised earnestly. “Places like that aren’t safe…”
Halfway through speaking, he seemed to realize he might be overstepping and awkwardly changed the topic.
I gave a resigned smile. “I was too focused on securing the contract,” I admitted. “I let my guard down.”
Jon sighed softly, his expression carrying the concern of an elder. “I have a daughter,” he said. “Seeing you reminds me of her. No parent wants their child suffering outside alone. Honestly, I didn’t do much, so don’t think too much about it.”
Hearing him mention his daughter softened my heart considerably. “If your daughter ever needs help in the future,” I said immediately, “whether it’s school, work, or anything else, please let me know. I’ll help however I can.”
Jon hesitated awkwardly for a while before finally speaking carefully. “Well… actually…” He lowered his voice with embarrassment. “The hotel room from last night was pretty expensive, and I didn’t have much money on me. Would it be possible for you to reimburse the room fee?” He paused cautiously. “About five hundred dollars should be enough.”
Looking at his uncomfortable expression, I became even more convinced that he was genuinely an honest man.
That had been a luxury suite. Five hundred dollars probably wouldn’t even cover a fraction of the actual price. Clearly, he had no idea how expensive the room truly was and was afraid of asking for too much. Without exposing him, I simply picked up my phone and directly transferred five thousand dollars to him. “Jon, please keep the extra money and buy something nice for your daughter,” I said warmly. “Thank you again for helping me last night.”
Jon stared blankly at the transfer notification on his screen, visibly stunned. Then he repeatedly nodded in gratitude, though he didn’t say much else afterward.
