Chapter 66:
Why would Ethan come? He was probably with Ivy right now, either enjoying a candlelit dinner in some luxurious restaurant or wrapped up with her in a hotel room.
The ballet was breathtaking, and yet I couldn’t focus on any of it. The dancers whirled freely across the stage, but the shifting lights only left me feeling dizzy.
When the performance ended, the audience began to pour out.
I kept my head lowered and moved with the crowd, already planning how I would completely move out of that villa tomorrow.
Then, all at once, a dry, powerful hand closed around my wrist.
“Ah!” I jolted, instinctively trying to wrench myself free, but froze the moment that familiar, overbearing sandalwood scent reached me.
I lifted my head and found Ethan standing in front of me.
He looked as though he had come in a rush, his tie slightly crooked from the wind. There was something unreadable in his dark eyes, something tangled and impossible to name.
“You…” I began, stunned.
He didn’t say a word, merely taking the heavy shopping bags from my hand in silence. His other arm slipped around my shoulders and guided me toward the parking lot.
Inside the car, silence hung thickly, broken only by the soft hum of the air conditioner.

“Lianne,” Ethan said at last, cutting through the quiet. “Are you angry because I spent the day with Ivy?”
Hearing the entitled edge in his voice, I couldn’t stop a mocking laugh from slipping out.
“Angry?” I turned to study his flawless profile, my voice laced with disbelief. “You really think too highly of yourself. I was only wondering when we could finally end our bond.”
Ethan’s brows drew together hard, and the car surged faster at once.
“You want to leave me that badly?” He slammed on the brakes and pulled over onto a deserted stretch of road.
He turned toward me, his tall frame radiating a suffocating force as he leaned over me. In the darkness, his Alpha eyes glinted with danger.
He reached out and caught my chin between his fingers, his breath hot against my lips, carrying a trembling edge of aggression.
“What if I told you I have no intention of letting you go?”
The moment I looked at him, all the grievance and fury I had forced down for so long finally burst loose.
I didn’t shrink back. Instead, I held his gaze and asked, “Ethan, on what basis? Did you suddenly discover that you love me? Or is it only because Ivy doesn’t need you for the moment, so now you remember me, the substitute you call whenever it’s convenient?”
The desire in his eyes faded in an instant, replaced by the shame of having his truth laid bare.
“Lianne, don’t push me too far,” he growled. His large hand slid from the side of my neck into my collar, his rough fingertips brushing against my sensitive skin and sending a wave of hopeless shivers through me.
I closed my eyes and let the tears fall quietly down my cheeks.
This was my fated mate.
