Chapter 965:
Ethan had never been able to stay by my side throughout my pregnancy. Later, circumstances had forced him into a defensive position, leaving him unable to openly protect me and our children. That had always been his deepest regret.
After struggling with herself for a while, Tracy finally looked at me. “Lianne, what do you think I should do? Should I keep this baby?”
I gently shook my head. “Tracy, this is a major decision between you and Jeremy. I can’t make that choice for you. Both of you need to discuss it carefully. No matter what you decide, I’ll support you.”
She nodded and said nothing more.
After comforting her for a little while, I left the hospital with Ethan.

Once in the car, Ethan fell silent. His hands stayed firmly on the steering wheel and his eyes were fixed on the road ahead. Not a single word left his lips, and the silence inside the car felt unbearably heavy.
I reached over, rested my hand on top of his, and said softly, “Ethan, what’s wrong? Talk to me.”
He gave no response and simply kept driving. I didn’t pull my hand away.
After what felt like forever, he finally steered the car to the side of the road and turned off the engine. Leaning back against the seat, he closed his eyes and stayed silent for a long time.
I moved toward him and held his hand as I tried again. “Ethan, tell me what’s going on. I know something is weighing on your mind. Please talk to me.”
He stayed quiet for a while, then finally spoke in a low voice. “The kids.”
My heart immediately softened. I said reassuringly, “Once the poison is completely out of my system, I’ll have another baby with you. This time, you’ll be there for every moment. Doesn’t that sound good?”
He slowly shook his head. He sounded slightly bitter as he said, “Lianne, the children were never my only regret.”
I froze.
He opened his eyes and looked at me. They were filled with guilt and self-reproach I had never seen before. “I regret that… I failed to keep my promise to stay by your side through everything. I wasn’t with you during your pregnancy. I wasn’t there when you gave birth. And when you struggled to raise our kids… I still wasn’t there.”
His voice quivered. “Lianne… I owe you so much.”
Looking into those eyes filled with guilt and sorrow, I felt my eyes sting with tears.
I reached up and cupped his face with both hands. “Ethan,” I said slowly, emphasizing every word, “you don’t owe me anything. You’ve already done more than enough for me. As for those regrets, we’ll make up for them together, little by little, in the future. Okay?”
As I looked at the sadness and uncertainty deep in his eyes, I immediately understood what he was thinking.
He had become trapped by the regrets of the past. He was so anxious and insecure that, in some ways, he seemed even more fragile than I was.
