Chapter 474:
No matter how badly I had hurt him, even as he stood at death’s door, I was still the only person in his heart.
“Are you… a witch as well?” I wiped away my tears as I noticed the faint glow that occasionally shimmered at her fingertips.
“I’m the head witch’s apprentice. I’ve been assigned to monitor his recovery,” she answered, confirming my guess.
I grabbed her hand tightly and kept asking about Ethan’s condition. She assured me that most of the silver poison had been removed from his body and that he simply needed more rest to regain consciousness. Only then did the anxiety that had consumed me for days finally begin to ease.
The snowfall in Thiynia had grown lighter, though cold winds still slipped through the cracks in the hospital corridor, making my knees tremble.
Another week passed.
For that entire week, I remained outside the ICU like a devoted guard protecting something priceless, refusing to leave for even a moment.
Because my injured leg never had the chance to rest and was constantly exposed to the bitter cold, it grew stiffer and heavier with each passing day. Every time I moved my wheelchair, sharp pain cut through the fracture.
As I pushed myself out of the ICU’s sterile area, I saw Tracy, who had just stepped out of the elevator.
She looked exhausted from traveling, and a few snowflakes still clung to her hair.

The moment she spotted me, worry flooded her face.
“Tracy…” I lowered my head and twisted my fingers together uneasily. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have come here without telling you. I know I’ve disappointed both you and Frank.”
I simply felt that I owed Frank far too much.
But Tracy neither scolded me nor looked angry. She walked over, crouched in front of my wheelchair, and took my freezing hands in hers.
Her eyes were red as she studied my pale face. “Silly girl, what are you apologizing for? How are you feeling? And… has Ethan woken up yet?”
“He’s no longer in critical condition, but he still hasn’t regained consciousness,” I answered quietly, avoiding her eyes.
I couldn’t tell her about the agreement I had made with Adrian.
I couldn’t bring myself to admit that I had traded custody of Ruby and Silas for one precious month with Ethan.
Tracy had always been stubborn and fiercely protective of the people she cared about. If she found out I had traded my children’s future for the sake of a man, she would think I had lost my mind. More than that, she would go to war with Adrian on my behalf.
But in the face of the mighty Thorn Pack, what else could someone as insignificant as me possibly offer in exchange for the chance to stay by Ethan’s side?
