Chapter 661:
More than that, the image of Ethan lying in his hospital bed suddenly appeared in my mind, along with the feeling that he was always keeping an eye on me.
I was afraid. Afraid that one of his people would see us together. Afraid that even in his condition, he would torture himself over something like this.
“It’s okay, Frank,” I said with a polite smile. “You’ve had a long day too. Go home and get some rest. And happy birthday again.”
Tracy seemed to sense my hesitation right away. She nudged Jeremy beside her and said, “Lianne shouldn’t be going home by herself. Jeremy, why don’t you drive her? It’s on our way anyway.”
Frank held my gaze for a moment. Disappointment briefly crossed his eyes, but he chose not to say anything. He waved at me, got into his car, and drove away.
Watching Frank’s car disappear around the corner, Tracy immediately clutched Jeremy’s arm and asked anxiously, “What did the two of you talk about outside? Frank’s been acting so strangely ever since he came back. Did he threaten you?”
Jeremy avoided her eyes and answered casually, “Nothing important. We just talked for a bit. A guy like him, who never lets go of the past, wasn’t going to forgive me that easily.”

After a brief pause, he quietly added, “And I don’t want to die.”
A chill ran through me as his words sank in.
Whatever Frank had said to Jeremy outside, it definitely wasn’t a friendly conversation.
As an Alpha, Frank had many ways to make someone like Jeremy, a pampered young heir, disappear without anyone ever finding out.
“Alright, let’s stop thinking about it,” I said, quickly changing the subject. I didn’t want Tracy worrying about this in her condition. “I have work tomorrow, so take me home first.”
When we reached my apartment building, I reminded Tracy to take good care of herself. After watching Jeremy drive her away, I finally turned and entered the elevator.
The moment I got home, I took a quick shower before slipping into my warm bed. Then I picked up my phone and opened the videos Ethan had sent of our two children.
I watched every single one of them over and over.
In the videos, Ruby was as lively as always. She kept teasing Silas, filling the room with bright, cheerful laughter. Even through the screen, hearing her laugh eased all the fatigue weighing on my heart.
Silas, on the other hand, was completely different. During command and combat training, his eyes were calm, sharp, and full of determination. Even at such a young age, he already carried the natural authority expected of an Alpha’s heir.
But the moment the video switched to his regular academic lessons, his eyelids immediately started drooping. His head bobbed as he struggled to stay awake, looking both stubborn and unbelievably adorable. I smiled to myself and couldn’t resist playing that clip one more time.
