Chapter 212:
She patted the back of my hand with quiet comfort, then shifted her gaze toward Ivy like a blade.
“Who is this piece of trash making a scene here?” Rola’s voice rang out cold and commanding.
She brought her wooden cane down hard against the floor, the sharp crack making Ivy tremble from head to toe.
“Rola, I was…” Ivy tried once again to put on her helpless act.
“Silence!” Rola drove the tip of her cane toward Ivy’s face, her tone dripping with contempt. “Get out! Leave my sight this instant!”
Ivy’s face drained of color, and her crying only grew more frantic.
The moment she realized the situation had turned against her, she clutched at Ethan’s sleeve and broke into hysterical sobs.
“Please… just let us be together! I really do love Ethan. I don’t care about titles or position. I only want to remain by his side…”
“Really?” Rola let out a scornful laugh, her eyes brimming with contempt. “Ivy, don’t think for a second that I can’t see through you. When Ethan lost the use of his legs and was cast aside by the family, you were the first to run. Now that he’s standing again and holds the position of sole Alpha of the Thorn Pack, you suddenly come rushing back? Someone as calculating as you has no right to speak of love. Guards! Take Ivy out of here!”
Two tall guards stepped forward immediately and grabbed Ivy by both arms.

“Ethan! Help me! Ethan!” Ivy screamed, panic breaking through her voice.
“Stop.” At last, Ethan stepped in.
He moved to block the guards, his expression dark and forbidding. Then he turned toward Rola. “Grandma, that’s enough. Ivy had her reasons for leaving back then. And besides, she’s only just suffered silver poisoning. She hasn’t recovered yet.”
Watching Ethan shield Ivy like that filled me with cold revulsion.
It seemed he had long forgotten that during the darkest three years of his life, it was I who had drawn the lingering poison from his body little by little. It was I who stayed beside him through endless nights, enduring the pain as it rebounded onto me.
“Let’s go, Rola.” I took hold of Rola’s trembling hand, my voice eerily calm. “I don’t want to stay here.”
Rola was shaking with fury, her finger stabbing toward Ethan as she lashed out at him. “You worthless boy! For the sake of someone like her, you would cast aside your own mate and ignore your grandfather’s life? Fine. From this day forward, I no longer acknowledge you as my grandson!”
Ethan’s POV
Behind me, Ivy’s fingers were wrapped tightly around my sleeve, her body giving the faintest tremor, as though she had been terribly wronged.
“Ethan… I truly didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I was only worried about your grandfather…” she said in a choked voice, tears spilling down her face, every inch of her looking painfully fragile.
Once, I would have soothed her and told her it was fine.
