Chapter 918:
Then Arthur’s howl erupted inside my mind. “Ethan… I’m hurting so badly.” His voice trembled with agony. “What’s happening to us? I can’t endure this anymore…”
His cries echoed repeatedly inside my head, raw and desperate. He sounded like a wild animal trapped in a cage, throwing itself against the bars in a frantic attempt to escape.
The instinct to shift became almost impossible to suppress. Every part of me screamed to give in, to let the wolf take over and rip apart everything within reach. I clenched my jaw until it hurt. The veins in my forehead stood out as I fought for control, while my fingernails dug so deeply into the wooden desk that they left visible grooves behind. I reached for the intercom and forced the words out through my dry, rasping throat. “Noah. Lock the office. No one comes in.”
Noah’s reply came almost immediately, his voice thick with worry. “Alpha, are you certain you don’t need medical attention? Should I call the hospital?”
“Do what I told you.”
I ended the call. Then I staggered away from the desk. My shoulder struck the bookshelf, sending several files tumbling down. Documents spilled across the floor. The room seemed to twist around me. The walls stretched and warped, and my vision became increasingly unreliable.
I could feel myself slipping. I was seconds away from losing control. Then my eyes landed on the photograph sitting on my desk. Our family picture. I stared at it.

Lianne was holding Ruby in her arms. Silas stood proudly beside me. The four of us were gathered together in the garden beneath the warm sunlight, every face in the photograph filled with happiness.
Lianne’s eyes curved into beautiful crescents when she smiled. Ruby’s tiny fingers were wrapped around one of mine. And Silas stood beside me with his little chest puffed out, looking immensely proud.
Something inside me suddenly steadied. That single photograph pulled me back from the edge.
I grabbed the frame and stumbled into the corner of the office before curling myself up against the wall.
With the picture pressed tightly against my chest, I shut my eyes.
I repeated the same thought over and over in my mind. I only had to survive this. If I could endure it, Lianne and I would eventually be together again. The four of us would have our happy life back.
I could handle it. Just a little longer.
Lianne’s POV:
I was finishing up the final pieces of work I still had left at the company.
The bulk of the Voss project was already transferred, and I planned to sort through the leftover files today before turning in my official resignation. My fingers moved steadily across the keyboard when, without warning, a piercing pain shot through my chest. I immediately grabbed at my heart and sucked in a sharp breath. Something was wrong.
Anna stirred restlessly inside me. “Lianne…” Her voice was filled with unease. “Something doesn’t feel right. I have a really bad feeling…”
