Chapter 616

Chapter 616:
I was terrified he would protect his family. Terrified he would erase the evidence to preserve his family’s image. I never truly placed my faith in him.
I walked out of the detention center, feeling utterly empty inside.
The following morning was supposed to be my departure from Thiynia.
Inside the hotel suite, I packed in silence, every movement dull and automatic.
Ruby’s and Silas’s tiny outfits sat neatly folded in my suitcase, yet an unbearable hollowness spread through my chest, as though something vital had been torn away from me.
Since returning to the hospital, I hadn’t crossed paths with Ethan once.
At first, I assumed he was occupied handling the aftermath Ivy caused or calming the frightened children. When I stepped outside my room, I encountered Melisa.
She still looked polished and composed in her professional clothes, though exhaustion lingered faintly beneath her calm exterior.
“Where is Ethan?” The question escaped before I could stop it.
Melisa studied me quietly before answering, “He already went back to Thorn Pack. I’ll be leaving tomorrow too.”

Everything inside me went cold.
He was gone…
No farewell. No message. Not even one final look.
Without a word, he had stepped completely out of my life, leaving me alone with the freedom I once thought I desired.
Melisa moved closer and said softly, “Lianne, I’m jealous of you. You were loved by Ethan with complete sincerity. But at the same time… I feel sorry for you because of the choice standing in front of you.”
A faint, bitter smile touched my lips as I shook my head. “There was never really a choice for me.”
If I ignored the truth because I wanted to stay wrapped in Ethan’s warmth, my father would never get justice.
I could not spend my days beside the grandson of the one who had taken my father from me.
Melisa released a quiet sigh before handing me a card with her personal number. “If you ever need anything, contact me.”
I accepted it with a quiet thank-you. After taking a few steps away, I suddenly stopped and turned back to her.
Drawing in a shaky breath, I forced myself to speak. “If Thorn Pack pressures Ethan into marriage… and if they choose you… please accept.”
Shock flashed across Melisa’s face.
“I can’t give him the trust he deserves. I just hope someone else can love him the way he needs. He deserves someone capable of giving him everything wholeheartedly, not someone consumed by revenge like me,” I said softly, looking down so she wouldn’t see the sadness in my eyes.
For several moments, Melisa said nothing. Then she smiled gently, though she never agreed.
“When the truth of your father’s death is finally out, you’ll be free to love him. You can tear down the walls around your heart and let him back in. Until then, nobody else will ever replace you,” she said softly.
Lianne’s POV
As soon as my plane touched down, rain hammered against the runway like the heavens had split apart.
When I stepped into the terminal, Tracy was the only familiar face waiting near the entrance.
