Chapter 362:
The drive began in complete silence except for the low hum of the air conditioner.
Beside me, Silas lowered his head over his customized phone, fingers moving rapidly across the screen while pale light illuminated his face.
Curious, I leaned closer. Rows of complicated code streamed endlessly across the display.
“Silas, what are you doing?” I brushed my fingers through his hair. “You need to rest.”
“I’m monitoring the Voss Group’s live network feed.” He never lifted his eyes from the screen. His fingers kept flying over the device while his voice stayed unnervingly calm. “That man is activating every surveillance system inside his territory. Mommy, I’m building fake trails to confuse them. I have to keep you safe.”
My breath caught instantly.

A child barely three years old should have been sleeping peacefully in his mother’s embrace.
Instead, he was forced to fight against his own father because of me.
“Silas… stop this. Turn it off.” Tears burned behind my eyes. I was about to make him quit when violent vibrations suddenly came from inside my bag.
My hands trembled as I reached for the phone. The screen lit up brightly enough to sting my eyes.
Even without a name saved beside it, I recognized that number instantly.
It was Ethan on the phone.
Lianne’s POV
The phone trembled nonstop in my hand. That number felt like a glowing brand seared into my skin, so scorching it almost burned through my vision.
It was Ethan’s private number.
Three years ago, I had spent countless sleepless nights staring blankly at those same digits.
But why was he calling me now?
And even more terrifying, how did he get this number?
The SIM card was registered under Tracy’s name. Since returning here, I had been extremely cautious. Aside from a few trusted people, no one should have known it.
“Lianne? What’s wrong? Talk to me!” Tracy twisted around from the passenger seat, panic rising in her voice when she saw my pale face and fixed stare at the screen. “Who’s calling?”
I parted my lips, but my throat was so dry that no sound came out at first. After several seconds, I finally forced out a shaky whisper. “It’s… Ethan.”
At that exact moment, the shrill screech of tires ripped through the quiet night.
Frank slammed the brakes so hard that I was thrown forward before the seatbelt snapped me violently back into place.
“What did you just say?” Frank whipped around, horror and disbelief written all over his face. “Ethan? How the hell does he have your number?”
Then the phone stopped vibrating. The display turned dark, replaced by a glaring alert of one missed call.
An oppressive silence swallowed the car whole. The air felt unbearably dense, as if breathing itself had become difficult.
The abrupt stop woke Ruby, who rubbed her sleepy eyes with a soft whimper. Beside her, Silas stared fixedly at my phone, and in those eyes so eerily similar to Ethan’s, a frightening hostility slowly surfaced.
