Chapter 679:
“Lianne, you’ve had too much to drink.” At some point, Alex showed up beside me. He placed a hand on my shoulder, speaking with an enthusiasm that immediately made me uncomfortable. “Everyone had such a wonderful time tonight, and there are plenty of rooms here. Why don’t you stay over? Come on, I’ll take you upstairs so you can get some rest.”
“No… I’ve already called a car…” I tried to shrug his hand away, but the alcohol had drained the strength from my body, leaving my arms weak and unsteady.
“Don’t be so stubborn.” Alex moved even closer, his hand slipping down to grasp my wrist. His fingertips brushed lightly against my skin as he said in a suggestive tone, “Lianne, everyone’s saying you’re single now. Is that right? Well, I’m single too. Shouldn’t two single people look after each other? What do you think?”
The clear desire in his eyes made my stomach turn.
I parted my lips, ready to reject him without hesitation, but before I could say a word, an overpowering, cold aura swept over us from behind.
The warm light spilling across the terrace was suddenly blocked by a tall figure. A broad shadow fell over me, carrying a chilling presence that made me freeze.
I had taken out my contact lenses earlier that evening to give my eyes a rest, so everything in front of me was a blur. I could only make out the outline of the person standing there.
But the scent was unmistakable. The faint mix of tobacco and cedar reached me, and I recognized it instantly.
“She belongs with me. Since when did you think you had the right to look after her?” Ethan’s deep voice was low, rough, and menacing.
My heart jumped as I lifted my head in disbelief, meeting a pair of faintly glowing eyes in the dark.
“Ethan?” I murmured, unable to hide the vulnerability in my voice.

He was supposed to be in Nshire, thousands of miles away, buried under mountains of work.
How could he possibly be standing right in front of me?
Ethan’s POV:
The moment I stepped onto the terrace, the sight before me made the anger I’d been holding back on my way here immediately flare.
Alex had a tight grip on Lianne’s wrist, and his eyes were filled with lust.
Before he even realized what was happening, the dominant Alpha aura I exuded had enveloped the whole space. The air itself seemed to freeze.
The moment Alex saw me, every trace of color drained from his face.
He jerked backward as though struck by lightning. His legs shook so badly he could hardly stay on his feet, and he forced out a shaky apology. “I… I’m sorry, Alpha…”
Without waiting for my reply, he turned and fled into the darkness as fast as he could.
I forced myself to ignore the urge to rip him apart and looked down at the woman in my arms instead.
She was obviously drunk. Her usually cool and composed eyes now looked hazy. A thin layer of tears made them sparkle, while her cheeks were flushed a deep red.
Holding back the anger still burning inside me, I asked in a low voice, “How much did you drink?”
