Chapter 972:
Lianne’s POV:
I stopped dead, my gaze catching the warmth hidden in Ethan’s smile. The weariness that had weighed on me all day seemed to disappear without a trace.
He had actually come all this way without telling me, just to surprise me.
“I’m so glad you’re here.” I rushed toward him and wrapped my arms around his waist, emotion making my eyes sting with tears.
The days that followed became a whirlwind of studio preparations. I threw myself into every detail, staying awake until midnight to oversee the renovations, arrange the workflow, and sort through countless little decisions. Somehow, I was even more occupied than Ethan.
The toxins had not completely left my body, and the constant lack of sleep was beginning to wear me down. Ethan noticed every change and remained on edge, always afraid that my condition would return. One afternoon, I was bent over the coffee table, examining the studio plans for what felt like the hundredth time, when Ethan came over and lowered himself beside me. His patience finally gave way to a familiar lecture. “Why don’t you let Noah handle the tedious parts? He could finish all of this in no time. You don’t have to shoulder every little thing.”
I nestled against him and let out a tired breath. “I don’t know enough yet, which means I need to put in the effort. If Noah takes care of everything, how am I supposed to gain any experience? I’ll only become someone you have to keep cleaning up after.”
His eyes dropped to mine, and his reply came in a quiet murmur. “I don’t mind cleaning up after you.”
I went still for a moment before lifting my head.
There was nothing unusual about his expression, yet something in the way he said those words felt different. Beneath that calm exterior lurked the slightest hint of possessiveness.
I thought through the past few weeks. I had barely crossed paths with any men, and Frank had long since disappeared from my life. There was no obvious reason for Ethan to be jealous, so I finally asked, “Ethan, what happened? You’ve been acting oddly lately.”

He said nothing at first. After several seconds, he lowered his gaze and murmured, “Nothing happened. I just want to give you more than anyone else ever could. I don’t want someone else to come along and steal you from me.”
A laugh escaped me. “I barely have enough time to eat properly with how much I’m running around. Who would have the opportunity to steal me?”
Instead of answering, he simply pulled me closer.
His expression darkened, and I was about to ask what was going through his mind when he suddenly bent down and kissed me.
There was something unusually intense about the kiss. It was deep, urgent, almost as though he needed the reassurance more than the affection. When he finally drew back, he rose from the couch and walked toward the bathroom.
I remained where I was, touching my heated lips and staring after him in bewilderment.
