Chapter 510:
Drawing a deep breath, I forced down the guilt and sadness threatening to overwhelm me. Then I looked at him seriously. “Ethan, can you promise me something?”
Without the slightest hesitation, he nodded. “Tell me.”
I tried to sound casual, but the tremble in my voice gave me away.
“No matter what happens in the future…” I began quietly. “If one day we’re no longer together, or if you meet someone else, have kids with her…” I gripped the fabric of my sleeves. “Promise me you’ll take care of Ruby and Silas. Always. No matter who you choose next, they don’t get pushed aside.”
I paused, feeling as though an icy wind was tearing through the emptiness inside my chest.
My voice grew softer. “Even if I die someday, I hope you’ll continue treating Ruby and Silas fairly. Please don’t let them feel abandoned.”
The moment the words left my mouth, the atmosphere in the room changed.

Ethan’s expression darkened immediately. His hand tightened around mine with such force that I couldn’t stop a sharp breath from escaping my lips.
“Lianne, take those words back.” His eyes locked onto mine, a dangerous crimson flickering within them, wild and intimidating. “I don’t want to hear you talk about leaving me. And I never want to hear you speak about dying.”
“I was only talking about a possibility…” I insisted quietly, unwilling to let the matter go before receiving his promise.
There were simply too many unknowns waiting in the future. Before anything unforeseen happened, I needed some form of assurance for my children.
“That’s not going to happen,” he cut me off sharply before pulling me into his arms.
For several moments, he said nothing. Then his deep voice sounded beside my ear, steady and unwavering. “Lianne, listen carefully. The only children I will ever have in this lifetime are the children you’ve given me. That’s it.”
I understood exactly what a vow like that meant. For an Alpha, choosing a mate and having heirs wasn’t a personal choice, it was a sacred responsibility carried by every Alpha. No one understood that better than I did.
A vow like this was practically declaring war on every elder in the pack.
But before I could speak, the hospital room door opened softly.
“Lianne, I brought some fresh fruit. And… uh, am I interrupting something?”
Tracy stood in the doorway carrying a large basket of fruit. Her smile looked awkward, while her manner remained polite yet slightly reserved.
Whenever she faced Ethan, there was always an unmistakable trace of discomfort in her behavior. Honestly, it made me feel a little uncomfortable too.
“No, not at all. Come in.” I quickly stepped away from Ethan’s embrace.
Tracy walked over and began peeling an apple as she chatted casually. “Oh, right. Frank sent me a message yesterday asking about you. He wanted to know whether you’d…”
Her voice abruptly stopped as she realized she had said something she shouldn’t have. She nervously glanced toward Ethan. His face had already turned ice-cold.
