Chapter 582:
I wrapped both arms firmly around her waist and pressed my face against her neck, breathing in the familiar scent that kept me grounded.
The thought of losing her terrified me. Even while holding her close, I still felt an unbearable distance separating us.
“Lianne…” My voice brushed against her skin, rough and desperate. “Let’s restore the bond soon. Within the next few days.”
“This can’t be decided impulsively,” she argued softly, attempting to pull away.
“Impulsively?” I snapped, lifting my head. “Our children are already four years old. We’ve wasted enough time. Tell me, are you waiting for me to recover before disappearing again with them?”
“That’s not what I’m doing…” Her tone weakened as her palms rested carefully against my chest, avoiding the wound entirely. “Please release me first. You’ll reopen the injury.”

“I won’t.” I looked at her stubbornly, refusing to budge. “Promise me we’ll complete the bond. One nod is enough, and I’ll let you go.”
Pain, exhaustion, and worry flickered through her eyes.
At last, she exhaled heavily and avoided giving me a direct response. “Ethan, stop pushing this. I need time. We shouldn’t make a decision like this inside a hospital.”
Slowly, my grip loosened.
I watched her retreat into the bathroom under the excuse of needing space, while I leaned against the bed with a humorless smile.
She still couldn’t agree.
Even after everything I had sacrificed, she remained uncertain.
I picked up my phone and texted Rola. “If I can’t have Lianne, I won’t take anyone else as my mate. Stop wasting your effort. Leave Melisa alone.”
Her response arrived almost immediately. “That will never happen. Ethan, you lead the Thorn Pack. Your mate must strengthen you, not become dead weight.”
Then another message appeared moments later, as if to soften the conflict between us.
“Ivy has already been delivered to your guards. Decide for yourself what becomes of her.”
Lianne’s POV
Late that night, I woke abruptly from an intense wave of heat.
Ethan’s entire body was burning up.
At first, I assumed it was simply fatigue from the flight mixed with the natural effects of healing. I wasn’t overly alarmed and only fetched cool water and cloths to lower his temperature.
But the fever worsened violently, disappearing and returning again and again over several days.
This afternoon, his temperature climbed to 104°F. Soon afterward, Ethan slipped into an unnaturally deep sleep. No matter how desperately I called his name, he wouldn’t wake up.
Fear completely overtook me, and I contacted Melisa immediately.
The moment she examined him with her medical staff, irritation crossed her face. “Why did you wait so long before calling me? He may be powerful, but he’s not indestructible.”
Shame settled heavily in my chest. “He avoided being alone with you because he didn’t want anything to seem inappropriate. I assumed…”
Melisa went silent briefly before laughing bitterly under her breath.
