Chapter 252:
By the time I walked out, it felt like every last piece of me had been hollowed out, and I sank onto a bench in the corridor, my thoughts in complete disarray.
Harold had always been my support, the steady foundation of the Thorn Pack. With his death, I knew a violent storm was about to descend.
I dragged a hand across my face and forced myself to steady my breathing.
Lianne could not be told yet. She was in far too delicate a state. If she found out Harold was gone, I was terrified that neither she nor the baby would make it.
But life never allowed anyone even a moment to recover.
Somehow, word got out, and reporters poured into the hospital corridor like scavengers closing in.
The security team failed to keep them contained. Camera flashes burst in every direction, burning against my eyes.
“Alpha! Is it true that your grandfather has died?”
“Now that Harold is gone, are the alliance agreements the Thorn Pack made with the other packs no longer valid? How will the lands be split?”
“People are saying Harold was driven to his death by anger. Does that have anything to do with your romantic entanglements?”
One reporter even rammed a camera straight into my face.

The grief, fury, and guilt crushing me from the inside finally broke loose.
“Get lost!” I lurched to my feet, a deep, furious growl tearing out of me as I drove my fist into the camera.
With a sharp smash, the lens burst apart on the spot. Slivers of glass sliced across my knuckles, and blood pattered onto the freezing floor.
At once, the uproar around me dropped into total silence.
Lianne’s POV
After Ethan left, a strange silence spread through the villa.
I remained by the window, turning the pages of the book in my hands for what felt like forever, yet not a single word sank in.
A shapeless fear pressed hard against my chest, thick and airless like the breathless stillness before a storm, until even drawing breath became a struggle.
Without realizing it, my hand moved to my stomach, still flat and unchanged. Ever since I learned I was pregnant, I had barely touched my phone or laptop.
Just then, the phone on the bedside table suddenly started to vibrate.
A message had arrived from an unknown number, and the only thing attached was a screenshot of a news headline.
The moment I saw it, my heart seized so hard it felt as though it stopped beating.
In the next instant, alerts flooded in from every social media app.
“Deep Mourning: Harold Voss, former Alpha of the Thorn Pack, passed away at the hospital this afternoon.”
My fingers trembled as I tapped one of the videos. On the screen, Ethan was still wearing the same suit he had on when he left earlier, smashing his fist wildly into the reporter’s camera. The grief and rage in his eyes were so sharp and real they seemed as if they could break straight through the screen.
