Chapter 713:
That was the place where his car had slammed into mine.
Everything looked exactly the same. Even the café nearby still had its polished sign, catching the morning sunlight with a faint glint.
A wave of nostalgia filled my heart. I took out my phone and snapped a few pictures, hoping to capture this brief moment of peace before it slipped away.
“When I first saw Ruby, I kept thinking her eyes and eyebrows looked just like mine,” Ethan said softly from behind me, his voice as soothing as the morning breeze. “But back then, I never let myself believe what that might mean.”
I slipped my phone back into my pocket and looked over at our daughter, chatting in a low voice with Silas a short distance away. Lowering my voice, I said, “Ruby has your eyes and eyebrows, but her face is shaped just like mine. When it was just the two of us, I managed to keep her parentage hidden. But Silas, he looks exactly like you. Anyone who sees him would immediately know he’s your son.”

Ethan let out a soft sigh.
He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, rested his chin on my shoulder, and murmured, “You’ve always insisted on carrying every burden by yourself. You never wanted to rely on anyone. That’s why raising both of them alone was so difficult.”
“Back then, I had already decided that once our mate bond ended, I would disappear from your life completely.” Keeping my eyes on the distant horizon, I spoke with complete honesty. “I believed that if we were truly going our separate ways, you should never know about the children. I thought that by keeping the secret, both of us could eventually move on.”
“Disappear from my life?” Ethan’s arms tightened around my waist, his voice turning firm and resolute. “Lianne, that’s impossible. In this lifetime, we can never truly cut ties. We’re fated mates. It’s the Moon Goddess’s will.”
I relaxed into his arms, feeling the steady vibration of his voice through his chest. At that moment, I finally stopped resisting and accepted our fate.
The bond between us had always been strong. It was never something that could be broken easily.
“When will you finally lean on me?” he asked gently, his voice filled with affection and a hint of coaxing.
I turned the question back on him. “What if I never manage to do that?”
“Then that’s okay.” He brushed a kiss on my earlobe, his touch so gentle it left me in a blissful daze. “I’ll keep teaching you, little by little, until it becomes natural.”
The air between us was warm and peaceful, our hearts drawing closer with every passing second. Then the shrill sound of a ringing phone suddenly cut through the moment.
It was Tracy calling.
The moment I answered, a chill spread through my body.
