Chapter 206:
“I heard she’s useless now that she doesn’t even have her wolf anymore. No wonder the Alpha doesn’t want her. If I were him, I’d choose Ivy too.”
“She ought to be tossed into a pack of rogue wolves and left to those filthy beasts. Let’s see how long she can keep that arrogant expression then.”
The recording was saturated with filthy insults, every line dripping with vulgarity and degradation, and each word scraped harder against my nerves.
My fists drew tighter, the veins standing out sharply across the backs of my hands, while Arthur burst into a savage, furious roar. “Kill them! Rip those bastards to pieces!”

“I’ve already taken care of some of the calls and messages she’s been getting,” Frank said as he clicked the recorder off, his voice turning icy. “But I can only shield her for so long. I can’t do it forever. Ethan, if you don’t love her and you can’t protect her, then let her go completely. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to take her away from you.”
“No one can sever the bond between destined mates,” I forced out between clenched teeth.
“That’s not always true.” Frank pushed open the car door, then looked back at me before stepping out. “Once love is gone, the bond stops being a blessing and turns into a chain. And chains can be broken.”
By the time I returned home, the light in the master bedroom had already gone dark.
I pushed the door open carefully and, in the faint wash of moonlight spilling in from outside, saw Lianne curled into herself on one side of the large bed.
She was sleeping poorly, her entire body drawn into a small, tight knot, as if she was frightened.
When I moved closer, I saw her brows knitted together, a thin layer of cold sweat glistening across her forehead.
“No, it wasn’t me. I didn’t…” she mumbled in her sleep, eyes still shut, her voice thick and broken with sobs.
“Ethan, don’t leave. It hurts…”
A tear slipped from the corner of her eye and vanished into the pillow beneath her.
Something in my chest twisted so sharply in that moment that I could hardly breathe.
I lowered myself to sit at the edge of the bed and gently stroked her back, every movement slow and careful.
With unsteady fingers, I brushed the sweat from her forehead and wiped away the tears gathered at the corners of her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Lianne,” I whispered, enclosing her small, cold hand in mine. “I’ll protect you. I won’t let the people who hurt you or humiliated you get away with it.”
Once she had finally calmed, I left the master bedroom and walked to the far end of the corridor, then reached out through the mind-link. “Noah, are you there?”
“Alpha? It’s the middle of the night. What happened?” Noah’s voice carried a note of surprise.
“Reach out to the network that’s been chasing me for an exclusive. Tell them I’ve agreed to sit down with them.”
