Chapter 244:
And I remembered it with cruel clarity, I had been away handling pack matters at the time. Even after I came back, the distance between us had stayed hard, cold, and impossible to cross. We had not shared a bed.
Lianne’s sharp, unbending words, and the way she had defended Frank, flashed through my head.
Could this child actually be Frank’s?
A freezing shock hit me head-on, wiping out the last bit of sense I still had.
Rage raked through my chest, savage and unrestrained, like some monster breaking loose inside me.
My temples pounded violently.

I knew that if Lianne showed up in front of me at this moment, I would do something I could never undo.
I had to force myself to slow down, wait for the medicine to kick in, and give my head time to clear.
“Drive,” I rasped to Noah, my voice raw.
The car rolled a short distance. As we passed a street corner, my eyes flicked out the window and froze in disbelief.
“Stop! Pull over!”
Under the dim streetlight, I saw them.
Lianne crouched on the ground, and a man leaned close, arms stretching toward her.
From where I sat, the scene burned into me. Lianne looked playful, even teasing, tapping his chest lightly like they were an ordinary couple caught in a small quarrel.
The man scooped her up gently, cradling her in his arms.
A harsh, bitter laugh tore from my throat.
Was this the love she had been chasing? Was this supposed to be her “one and only”?
The rage I had been bottling exploded. I pounded my fist into the backseat screen.
It shattered immediately, slicing my knuckles, blood running down my hand, yet the pain barely registered.
The ache in my chest swallowed everything else.
No amount of medication could stop the urge to destroy. I fixed the man’s back with a stare sharp enough to cut.
“Make sure someone keeps an eye on her.” I closed my eyes, voice trembling until it was almost a whisper. “Take me home. Right now!”
Lianne’s POV
I froze, my gaze locked on the man standing beneath the streetlamp, trying to make sense of him.
There was something familiar in his features, a faint echo of Ethan, especially those piercing, calculating eyes that burned with the same fierce intensity.
No wonder my mind, clouded by grief, had confused him for Ethan.
“Who are you?” I asked cautiously.
The man’s lips curved into a polite, distant smile, careful and restrained. “Hello, Lianne. I’m Adrian Voss.”
Recognition struck me like a sudden jolt.
Adrian was the child of a distant relative from the Voss family. Years ago, his parents had been killed by rogue wolves, and the Voss family had taken him in. He had spent most of his life abroad, returning only rarely. I had encountered his name in old family photographs and heard it mentioned by Harold.
“I’m sorry for earlier. I mistook you for someone else,” I muttered, stepping back instinctively, trying to pull free from the gentle hold of his arms.
But Adrian didn’t release me.
