Chapter 939:
My grip tightened around the phone. “Say something. Are you really choosing her as your mate?”
He avoided giving me a direct answer. “Lianne, there’s a lot you don’t understand. I can’t explain everything over a call. I’ll tell you the whole story when I see you.”
The resentment I had swallowed for days finally broke through. Suspicion, shame, disappointment, and all the hurt I’d endured came rushing to the surface. “I don’t want another explanation! Come here now. I want you at my place within twenty minutes. If you don’t show up, I’ll take the children and leave. From that point on, you won’t have any way of finding us.”
“Lianne!”
“I’m not bluffing.”
With that, I ended the call. I had reached my limit. Melisa’s smug attitude was unbearable, while Ethan’s constant refusal to give me a straight answer had exhausted whatever patience I had left. I no longer wanted to remain trapped in a relationship filled with uncertainty. I wanted an ending I could live with.
If Ethan really decided to choose another woman, then there was one final matter to settle. I would make him sign an agreement confirming that he was the one to end our relationship, that his feelings for me were gone, and that he would surrender any claim to the children’s custody. Once that was done, our connection would be finished for good.
A moment later, my phone buzzed. Ethan had sent over a message. “I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

I slipped the phone away and knelt before the children. Ruby’s eyes were swollen and crimson, while Silas remained unusually quiet with his head bowed.
Suppressing the pain twisting inside me, I took one hand in each of mine and started walking home.
We hadn’t gone far when Silas spoke in a small voice. “Mom, do you hate Dad?”
My feet stopped.
I stood there without answering for several seconds. Then I finally said, my voice devoid of warmth, “Yes, I hate him.”
I resented the way he had abandoned his responsibilities. I despised his constant hesitation and refusal to be honest. More than anything, I couldn’t forgive him for the suffering he had brought into my life and the children’s.
Silas didn’t ask anything else. His tiny fingers simply wrapped more tightly around mine.
I steadied myself and continued toward the apartment building with both children beside me.
Whatever happened next, I knew this couldn’t continue. Today, Ethan and I were going to settle everything.
Ethan’s POV:
When I reached the apartment, I found Lianne in the kitchen preparing dinner.
She stood with her back toward me, an apron secured around her waist while she worked the spatula through the pan. The familiar scent of freshly prepared food spread throughout the room. She had obviously noticed my arrival, yet she didn’t bother looking over her shoulder. “Go sit in the dining room.”
I moved toward her, intending to lend a hand. Before I could reach her, she shifted aside and raised the spatula between us, quietly preventing me from getting any closer.
