Chapter 242:
Once I stepped outside, the night air brushed against my neck, but it didn’t change anything inside me. The chill in my chest stayed the same.
My thoughts drifted, and everything that happened in that private room kept repeating, like something unreal that wouldn’t stop.
Tracy called me, her voice tight with worry. “Lianne, are you alright? Ethan’s such an asshole… Don’t take it seriously. Where are you? Should I come get you?”
“I’m okay, Tracy,” I said, keeping my tone steady while my nails pressed into my palms. “I just need to walk for a bit. You can head back. Be careful.”
After the call ended, I kept walking without any direction.
Ethan’s cold, disdainful gaze kept flashing in my mind.
I couldn’t understand it.
Just last night, he talked about a future with me, yet tonight, he acted like everything I felt didn’t matter.
Why did he keep tearing down the last bit of hope I still had?

I kept moving without thinking and didn’t notice when I stepped near the bike lane.
A loud horn suddenly rang out behind me.
A motorcycle sped past, brushing dangerously close to me.
I flinched and tried to move away, but my foot caught on the curb. I hit the ground hard.
“Watch where you’re going! Damn it!” the rider exclaimed, throwing me an annoyed look before speeding off.
Pain shot through my knees and elbows as I stayed on the ground.
When I lowered my gaze, I saw how the pavement had torn my skin. Blood slowly spread from the wounds, catching the light from the streetlamp.
At least there was no pain in my lower abdomen.
That fall broke everything I had been holding in. All the anger, the grievance, and the despair pushed through at once.
I sank onto the curb, staring at my hands as blood covered them, while tears kept falling without stopping.
Right then, a handkerchief made of silk appeared in front of me, carrying a faint scent.
Through my blurred vision, I looked up and saw a tall figure standing between me and the light. The outline looked familiar. The suit was well-fitted. Even the scent felt the same.
“Ethan…”
Everything inside me gave way.
I forced myself up and went at him without thinking, hitting and kicking as I cried out, “Why did you lie to me? Why are you doing this to me? You made promises last night… You said I was the only one! You said you’d change! You’re a liar! You’re nothing but a liar!”
Hatred filled me. I hated what he did, I hated how he treated me, and I hated that I still felt this way because of him.
As I struggled, the wounds split wider, and blood soaked into his pale, expensive suit.
“Don’t move.” His voice came low and firm, carrying quiet control.
He didn’t push me away. Instead, his arm circled my waist and held me steady so I wouldn’t fall again.
I went still. My crying stopped all at once.
That voice… it wasn’t him.
I wiped my face hard until my sight cleared.
