Chapter 626:
Jeremy’s face drained of color the moment he finished reading the report.
There was no room for doubt.
The little girl he had believed to be his own had been nothing but a pawn. That woman had spun the entire story to secure status and bleed him dry.
“Fuck!” Jeremy exploded, smashing his fist against the seat hard enough to shake the car. Rage and disbelief twisted together in his voice, and his eyes burned crimson. “That manipulative bitch actually made an idiot out of me!”
His temper ran ahead of his thoughts, and the question slipped out before he could stop himself. “Back when you said Ruby and Silas were yours, you never checked their DNA. So how could you possibly know for certain…”
The instant the words landed, the atmosphere froze.
My expression hardened. Cold hostility seeped from every inch of me as I pointed toward the door. “Leave.”

“Alright, alright. I screwed up.” Jeremy immediately stiffened. The arrogance he’d carried moments ago vanished completely. A spark of excitement flickered across his face as he clung desperately to the truth he’d uncovered.
He practically bolted toward the hospital to arrange a paternity examination, but before shutting the car door, he grabbed the window frame and pleaded, “Ethan, please watch things here for me. If Tracy heads out, call me immediately. Please.”
I responded with a brief nod.
Only then did he finally relax. A grin spread across his face, and even while leaving, he still found time to joke around. “Thanks, bro. Once Tracy forgives me, I’ll treat you and Lianne to a feast.”
I dismissed him with an icy look and watched until he disappeared from sight.
Afterward, my gaze slowly drifted upward toward the apartment window above.
Lianne… if only things between us were that simple. If only I could uncover some mistake, some hidden truth proving our families were never enemies and your father’s death had nothing to do with Rola. How much easier would everything be?
By sunrise the following day, I was still parked outside the building.
The passenger seat was buried beneath overseas contracts waiting for signatures. My laptop illuminated the dark interior of the car, but concentrating on work did nothing to quiet the unease clawing inside my chest.
At last, Jeremy appeared, striding quickly toward me. I stopped typing, lowered the window, and spoke with a rough voice. “You got the results?”
Relief flashed in his eyes with almost savage intensity. “I did. The girl isn’t mine. Her mother forged every document and even used illegal potions from the black market to change the child’s scent and appearance to fool me. But once the medical report came out, her entire lie collapsed.”
I frowned at how light he suddenly seemed and said sharply, “Then why are you still standing here? Go upstairs and make things right with Tracy before it’s too late. If you keep wasting time, you could lose the child that actually belongs to you.”
