Chapter 195:
“Lianne,” Ethan looked as though he wanted to speak, yet in the end, he merely pressed his lips into a tight line.
A hollow sense of irony welled up inside me.
He still couldn’t let go of Ivy; there was no way he would simply stand aside while the person he treasured was in danger.
“Just go,” I said with a detached nod.
Ethan’s voice dropped to a near whisper. “Lianne, come with me. I told you, I won’t face her alone again.”
A faint smile touched my lips. “If I go, Ivy will only be more devastated. At a moment hovering between life and death, the one she wants to see most will always be you.”
Ethan held my gaze, unmoving, as if he intended to remain locked in place until I gave in.
I let out a quiet sigh, conceding at last. “Fine. We’ll go together.”
The air inside the car felt as stifling as ever, heavy enough to press down on the chest.

I leaned back into the seat, shutting my eyes in an attempt to rest.
Without warning, a broad, warm hand settled over mine.
I opened my eyes to find Ethan watching me from the side.
His thumb traced slow, careful circles along the back of my hand, his touch so gentle it felt as though he feared I might shatter.
I neither pulled away nor reacted, simply letting him keep his hold.
The instant we entered Ivy’s hospital room, the sharp scent of blood surged forward, laced with a searing undertone that made every wolf instinctively recoil.
It was the unmistakable stench of silver poison.
To wolves, silver was nothing short of a lethal curse. Even the smallest trace could scorch the soul like an unrelenting blaze.
Ava stood at the bedside, her expression drawn and haggard.
The moment she saw Ethan, she lowered her voice and reported, “Luckily, it was caught in time. Ivy only took in a very small amount of silver powder. It caused some physical damage, but it isn’t severe, and she should regain consciousness soon.”
Ivy bore little resemblance to the radiant woman she once was.
Dark shadows lingered beneath her eyes, and her complexion had faded into a dull, lifeless pallor.
Her once-curved figure had wasted away to the point of being almost unrecognizable, her long hair tangled across the pillow like brittle, dried weeds.
What struck the hardest was the blue-and-white hospital gown and the stark white sheets beneath her, both stained with fresh blotches of blood, the result of ruptured capillaries from the silver’s violent rejection.
Such a pitiful sight would stir compassion in any man who witnessed it, let alone Ethan, who had always held her as dearly as his own life.
I turned my head slightly to glance at the man beside me.
As expected, Ethan’s eyes were fixed on Ivy, unwavering and intense.
The woman on the bed let out a faint, broken sound and slowly pried her eyes open.
Her gaze was unfocused, but the instant she recognized Ethan, her pupils tightened abruptly.
“Ethan,” she whispered hoarsely, her voice laden with grievance.
