Chapter 720:
“I only thought that way because the elders are willing to accept you,” Ethan said. A faint glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes as he looked straight at me, trying to persuade me. “Lianne, if you choose to let Rola go, we can be together without anyone standing in our way. Our children will also be accepted by the pack. You’ll become my Luna. No one will ever look down on you again. We can be a real family. We can have a perfect future.”
Listening to him paint such a beautiful picture of what our future could be, I couldn’t deny that my resolve shook for a brief moment.
But that future came at the cost of my father’s unjust death.
“A perfect future?” I laughed bitterly. My nails dug deeper into my palms, forcing me to stay clear-headed. “A future bought with my father’s life? I want no part of it. Ethan, I will never withdraw my accusations against Rola. Even if it destroys us, I won’t do it.”
“I’ve never defended her!” Ethan’s voice rose sharply. The veins at his temples stood out as his emotions spiraled out of control. “I know she’s guilty. There were times I even wanted to kill her myself. But I want to keep you even more! I just… I just want us to have a future together.”
I had never imagined our relationship would come to this.
Suddenly, Ethan took a step closer and grabbed my arm.
His grip was so tight it hurt. His eyes were red as he stared at me and pleaded desperately, “If you still have feelings for me, then why are you so determined to push me away? Why can’t you be selfish for once? Why can’t you choose me? Choose us?”
“Yes, I care about you,” I said at last, my voice shaking as tears gathered in my eyes. “But Ethan, the way you keep sacrificing everything for me is overwhelming. Every time I watch you stand against your family because of me, every time I see how much pain this puts you through, I feel exhausted. This love has become too heavy. I don’t have the strength to carry it anymore.”
But he refused to let go of me. He held on tightly.
At that moment, Ruby’s and Silas’s bright laughter drifted from the children’s room, breaking through the tension like a cheerful melody.

Lianne’s POV:
Our children’s laughter was bright and innocent, but to us, every cheerful sound hit like a crushing blow.
Ethan clung to me as though I were the last thing keeping him afloat. He wrapped his arms around me so tightly I could barely breathe.
His voice shook with desperation as he whispered into my ear, “Lianne, if you won’t do it for me, then do it for our children. Please, just this once, for them. They deserve to have both a father and a mother. They deserve a complete family. Can you really watch them grow up the way you did, with no one to lean on?”
A stabbing ache spread through my heart, so intense it felt as though my heart were being torn apart. Even so, my reply remained cold and unwavering. “Both children will stay with Thorn Pack. They’ll receive the finest education and the strongest protection. They’re getting older, Ethan. Soon, they won’t need me anymore.”
