Chapter 910:
I continued, barely above a whisper, “I’ve spent the last few days thinking about everything. You, me, the Thorn Pack, all of it. Two lives have been caught in the middle of this. And the distance between us has always been impossible to cross. I was never truly suited to stand beside you as your mate. I only refused to see it because I was living inside a fantasy of my own making. Now, I’ve finally come to my senses. I don’t want anything anymore. I just want to leave with my children.”
A trace of alarm appeared in Ethan’s voice. “If you take them away, then what am I supposed to do?”
My eyes burned. I felt tears gathering, but held them back. “You’ll be fine. You can build another life with Melisa. You can have a family with her and begin again. I’m not asking for anything else. Just let me keep the children. They’re the only family I have left.”
Yet Ethan remained firm. “If you stay, you can raise them yourself. I won’t interfere.”
A bitter laugh escaped me. For the first time, I understood just how foolish I had been.
I had spent too long holding on to the version of Ethan I remembered instead of accepting the man he had become.
He was the Alpha of the Thorn Pack. He possessed authority, influence, and power. Once his feelings for me were gone, what leverage could I possibly have against him?

I looked straight at him. “I’m not going to spend the rest of my life under your control. If you force me to, I’ll find another way to take the children with me. But I’m leaving.”
Panic flashed across Ethan’s face. His expression softened, and when he spoke again, his voice was low and coarse. “Lianne, I did love you. I don’t want us to become enemies.”
He did love me. The words struck harder than I expected. I lowered my eyes as a cold emptiness settled inside my chest.
I had never wanted to stay. I wasn’t trying to hold on to a relationship that no longer existed. I simply wanted an ending.
I said coldly, “Then stop holding me back.”
Ethan said nothing. The silence stretched on until I began to wonder whether he intended to answer at all. At last, he spoke. “Let the children decide. Ask them who they want to live with.”
I nodded. “Fine. If they choose you, I’ll accept it. I won’t force them to come with me. But regardless of what they decide, I’m still leaving.”
My exhaustion had reached its limit. I made one final appeal. “Go now. The longer you’re standing in front of me, the more difficult it becomes to keep myself from changing my mind. But whenever I picture Melisa beside you, I know I can’t keep pretending that everything is normal. I spent all this time waiting for you to explain yourself. I kept hoping you’d give me a reason, yet you never did.”
Ethan shook his head. “I’m staying until the children return. I want to see them.”
I was afraid that if I remained there another minute, I would lose control of myself. So I turned toward the exit. “Then I’ll go.”
