Chapter 376:
Then, after a long pause, he finally spoke, more serious than before. “Lianne… I’ve been thinking about something.” He set down his fork. “Silas already knows about Ethan. That kid is too smart. And he’s too much like Ethan. You can hide it now, but as he grows older, do you really think he won’t go looking for his biological father?”
My chest tightened.
I lowered my gaze to the half-cut egg on my plate. “I know I’m selfish,” I whispered. “I took away their right to have a father. I made them live like fugitives with me.”
A bitter laugh escaped me. “But Ethan is getting married. He’ll have a new family. A new life.”
My fingers trembled slightly. “If Silas appears now, what do you think his new mate will do? That kind of setting would only bring my child misery.”
Werewolves were famous for their powerful territorial instincts, and they placed particular importance on pure bloodlines.
If Ethan’s new mate resented Silas’ very existence, then for Silas, trying to reconnect with his father would be nothing short of walking into another hell.

Frank softened his expression. “Don’t overthink it. When they’re older, they’ll understand you.”
I gave a small, broken smile, but my mind wasn’t there anymore. Last night’s image resurfaced without warning.
Those dark red bite marks on Ethan’s shoulder. They burned into my thoughts like something branded there permanently.
A sharp wave of guilt surged through me. It made me feel like I was the intruder now. The one who had no right to still look back. I inhaled slowly.
“Once we leave here…” I murmured, almost to myself, “everything about this place will have nothing to do with me anymore.”
I forced my voice steadier. “Time will fix everything.”
Just then, my phone vibrated on the table.
My heart sank as I immediately picked it up.
Silas had texted, “Mommy, I need to deal with something. I’ll meet you and Tracy when I’m done. Don’t worry. I’m okay.”
For a second, my mind went completely blank. The phone nearly slipped from my hand.
“What happened?” Frank asked sharply.
“Silas isn’t with Tracy anymore,” I said, voice breaking as I stood abruptly. My fingers quaked as I dialed the number, yet all that came back was the chilling monotone of an automated voice: “The number you have dialed is a virtual number and cannot be connected.”
Silas had breached the communication network, left Tracy behind, and disappeared without a trace!
“What is he plotting? What does he intend to do?” I shot upright with such suddenness that dizziness consumed me.
He had to be going after Ethan!
“Hurry up, Frank! Contact Tracy. Demand to know where she lost track of Silas!” I latched onto Frank’s arm, my voice thick with pleading. “We have to bring him back! If he encounters Ethan, if he provokes Ethan…”
I couldn’t bring myself to imagine the fallout.
Just last night, Ethan had said that if the child wasn’t mine, he would deal with him in his own way. If Ethan actually did something to Silas, I would never be able to forgive myself.
“Stay calm, Lianne. We’re going to find Silas right now!” Frank’s face went pale as he snatched the car keys and tugged me toward the door.
