Chapter 808:
Her health had only just begun to improve, and the poison hadn’t completely left her body. Until she was fully recovered, I couldn’t risk doing anything that might set her back.
Drawing a slow breath, I gently caught her wandering hand, tucked the blanket securely around her, and whispered, “Be good. I want you resting as much as possible. When you’re completely healthy again, we’ll have all the time we need.”
Frustration flickered across her face for a moment, but she simply nodded and quietly closed her eyes.
I remained beside the bed, watching her sleep.
Her eyelashes rested against her cheeks, casting delicate shadows, while each steady breath reassured me she was fine.
I lifted my hand, tracing the outline of her face without actually touching her.
No matter what Melisa demanded, no matter how impossible the situation seemed, I would find a way to free Lianne from this nightmare once and for all.
I would never allow anyone to use her as a bargaining chip or place her life in someone else’s hands.

Lianne’s POV
Morning sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, spilling across the floor at the foot of the bed.
When I opened my eyes, every muscle still ached with the lingering weakness of recovery.
The comforting fragrance of freshly made porridge drifted through the air, wrapping me in a warmth I hadn’t felt in a long time.
After slipping into my slippers, I wandered out of the bedroom. As I reached the hallway, Ethan’s hushed voice reached my ears. “Shh… keep your voices down. Mommy’s still asleep. Don’t wake her.”
Peeking around the corner, I found him sitting at the dining table, carefully peeling boiled eggs for our two children.
Ruby tilted her little face toward him, nodding obediently.
The sight made my nose sting, and every lingering worry inside me quietly dissolved into the peaceful simplicity of the moment.
“Mommy!” Ruby spotted me first. Her face lit up instantly as she raced toward me like an excited butterfly before throwing herself into my arms.
I caught her with a smile and hugged her close. Just as I was about to kiss her soft cheeks, Ethan walked over, effortlessly lifting Ruby from my embrace while wrapping his free arm around my waist to steady me.
“Why didn’t you sleep a little longer?” He lowered his head and whispered teasingly into my ear. “Weren’t you saying you were exhausted last night? Yet here you are already.”
Heat rushed to my face. I shot him an embarrassed glare before quickly covering his mouth with my hand. “The children are standing right here. Stop saying things like that.”
A quiet laugh escaped him. Then, with unmistakable mischief in his eyes, he pressed a kiss against my palm. The gentle touch sent warmth racing through my fingers and straight into my heart.
Watching the four of us gathered around the breakfast table filled me with such happiness that my eyes nearly watered.
As I sipped my bowl of porridge, my thoughts drifted back to Ethan’s late-night visit to Melisa. After wrestling with myself for several moments, I finally set my spoon aside.
