Chapter 930

Chapter 930:
After several seconds of silence, he finally spoke again. “I didn’t bring my car. Noah can’t come get me right now. Let me stay until the children are asleep.”
I didn’t buy the excuse. Without another word, I took out my phone and called Noah. After several rings, he answered. I switched the call to speaker. “Noah, Ethan says you can’t pick him up. Is that true?”
Silence lingered on the other end. I waited, expecting Noah to expose the lie. One simple confirmation that he was available would leave Ethan without another excuse.
Instead, Noah answered in an apologetic tone, “Miss Riley… I’m tied up at the moment. Would you mind letting Alpha stay there tonight? He’s still recovering, and too much traveling could make his condition worse.”
My fingers tightened around the phone.
I glanced toward Ethan. He remained exactly where he was, leaning casually against the wall and looking at me with an innocent expression.
I knew better. Noah had always followed Ethan’s orders without question.
This entire exchange had clearly been arranged beforehand.

Holding back my irritation, I sighed into the phone. “Fine. Come for him as soon as you’re free.”
The moment the call ended, I faced Ethan. “Don’t cause trouble, and make sure the children don’t notice anything unusual.”
As I spoke, the memory of that fierce kiss flashed through my mind. Heat rushed into my face, and I quickly turned away before he noticed my embarrassment.
When we returned to the living room, Silas was sitting at the coffee table with his drawing supplies scattered around him.
The moment he spotted us, his eyes shifted between Ethan and me. “Dad, are you pretending to be sick so you can stay here?”
Ethan stopped walking. Silas continued with surprising seriousness, “You don’t even look sick anymore. You just don’t want to leave us.”
Ethan offered a weak smile. “I really don’t feel very well.”
Silas nodded thoughtfully. “If that’s true, you should just pretend to faint. Mom definitely wouldn’t throw you out then.”
Listening to the exchange between the two of them left me both speechless and exhausted. I knew exactly what Ethan was doing. He understood my weakness better than anyone. He knew I couldn’t say no to the kids and that I’d never expose his act or argue with him in front of them.
Lianne’s POV:
I put the living room back in order before joining the children at the dining table.
Their homework gave me something to focus on, which was exactly what I needed.
I kept my attention fixed on their assignments, intentionally shutting Ethan out of my thoughts.
A short while later, my phone vibrated. Tracy’s name appeared across the screen. I picked up the call. “Lianne, are you available tonight? Do you want to take a walk with us? Frank is here too, and he says there’s something he needs to discuss with you.”
“No. Tonight doesn’t work for me. I don’t want to go anywhere.”
