Chapter 190:
“Alpha, something’s happened.”
Lianne’s POV:
Sunlight poured in through the wide picture windows, laying a soft, golden warmth across the dining table.
I idly sliced into the sandwich on my plate when my phone suddenly flared to life, rattling with a flood of notifications.
I tapped through them, my breath hitching just a little.
They were candid shots of Ethan and me in the parking lot, and later by the restaurant entrance, clearly taken without our knowledge.
In those images, we looked undeniably close, especially in the instant he covered me as I slipped into the car. The contrast of light and shadow painted a deceptive picture of something far more intimate between us.
Though the topic had already slipped down the trending charts, the comment section remained packed with outrageous speculation.
“Isn’t that Lianne from Voss Group with Alpha? Looks like Ivy was nothing but a distraction.”
“Just look at the way they gaze at each other, the chemistry speaks for itself.”

I lifted my eyes toward Ethan, seated across from me. He sipped his coffee with quiet refinement, appearing entirely unaffected by the situation.
“Did you check the trending topic?” I asked. “Did it bother you?”
Ethan flicked a brief glance at my screen, placed his cup down, and answered in an even, unbothered tone, “Don’t concern yourself with it. I’ve already had my people handle it. This sort of meaningless chatter won’t cause much of a stir.”
“Alright,” I said, taking a composed bite of my sandwich.
The insults and assumptions didn’t trouble me in the least.
In our world, public opinion was nothing more than a pawn in the hands of the powerful.
People believed only what suited them. Explanations were brushed aside as excuses, and silence was mistaken for fear. I had long since learned to remain untouched while standing in the eye of the storm.
My phone buzzed once more. It was a message from Frank.
“Lianne, did you see the news? Are you alright? Were those photos taken against your will?”
As I sipped my milk, I replied, “Thanks for checking in, Frank. I didn’t let it get to me, so don’t worry. You should concentrate on your work.”
“Put the phone down while you’re eating.” Ethan spoke abruptly, his keen eyes locked onto me as if trying to figure out exactly who had my attention.
I was just about to dim the screen when another message from Frank flashed into view.
“I want to come see you. I can’t stop worrying. Lianne, you need to think carefully. Ethan isn’t someone you can build a future with. If he could treat you that way just for Ivy, it’s only going to get worse.”
Once upon a time, if I’d seen anyone speak about Ethan like this, I would’ve jumped to his defense without a second thought, even risking friendships just to shield his name.
But now, reading those lines, I only drew my brows together faintly.
