Chapter 187:
I was just about to respond when Finn suddenly appeared in the doorway. Her face wore a look of false concern as she stepped in to play the peacemaker. “Officers, could there be some kind of misunderstanding here? Lianne is Alpha’s… Anyway, she can’t be the only person under suspicion. Everyone, don’t worry, the truth will come out in the end.”
Lianne’s POV:
What Finn said sounded like she was helping me, but in reality, it only made everyone more certain that I was both under suspicion and protected by Ethan.
I gave her a cold look, said nothing, took my coat, and followed the officers out of the office.
They took my phone away, cutting me off from everyone outside.
I was brought into a cramped room where the fluorescent light overhead shone with a harsh, glaring white that made my head spin.

“What were you doing in Ethan Voss’s office? Are you aware that he was not in the company that day?”
The officers kept repeating the same questions again and again, endlessly, like a loop with no end.
I answered everything honestly, but I also understood that unless Ethan personally confirmed it, there was no way for me to explain away the fact that I had been alone in his office for more than an hour.
The interrogation room was so silent it felt oppressive, with only the ticking of the wall clock marking the time.
Around noon, someone brought me a basic boxed lunch. It was little more than a few limp vegetables and plain food, with no oil and almost no flavor at all.
The unpleasant smell turned my stomach instantly.
My pregnancy symptoms were already strong enough to make me nauseous, but I gripped the edge of the table and forced myself not to vomit.
I felt guilty toward the baby.
I placed a hand over my still-flat stomach, and tears began to gather in my eyes.
For the baby’s sake, I had to eat. I forced myself to swallow the food bite by bite, and each mouthful felt painfully difficult to get down.
After finishing the meal, I lay down on the cold metal table and tried to rest for a while.
But the lights here stayed on all day and night, leaving my nerves stretched tight without pause.
Sometimes I would sit there blankly, and other times I would get up and move around just to loosen my stiff limbs in that tiny space.
Exhaustion kept crashing over me in waves, pushing me closer and closer to the edge.
By the early hours of the morning, I could not hold out any longer, so I curled up in the chair, rested my head on my knees, and drifted into a drowsy haze.
With a sharp click, the heavy iron door was opened from the outside.
Still half-asleep, I lifted my head and murmured, “Can I leave now?”
“Lianne?”
A deep, magnetic voice came from the doorway.
My eyes flew open, and my blurred vision gradually sharpened into focus.
It was Ethan.
He was still dressed in his black suit, his body carrying the weariness of travel, exhaustion written plainly across his face. But the moment his eyes met mine, a faint softness flickered there, so slight it was almost impossible to catch.
