Chapter 663:
My dreams were like a broken mirror, each shard reflecting a memory I wished I could forget.
I found myself reliving the day my father was in that terrible car accident. The piercing sound of screeching tires echoed so loudly it felt like my ears would burst.
A crushing sense of helplessness swallowed me whole, pulling me under like a relentless tide.
Then, suddenly, the scene changed.
I was standing on the grounds of a magnificent estate I had never seen before, where a grand bonding ceremony was underway. Ethan was there, dressed in a flawless black suit, tenderly holding another woman’s hand.
They stood shoulder to shoulder with their backs to me, looking so close and perfectly matched.
I couldn’t make out the woman’s face, but I could feel her breathtaking beauty and the graceful confidence she carried.

Watching them from afar, it felt as though someone had torn a piece of my heart away, leaving behind a hollow ache that left me struggling to breathe.
Then the woman slowly turned to face me, a victorious smile spreading across her lips.
As the mist around her faded, her face came into focus. It was Melisa!
“No!”
The terrifying realization struck me hard, pulling me out of the nightmare in an instant.
I shot up in bed, struggling to catch my breath. My pajamas were drenched in cold sweat, and the heavy pain in my chest refused to fade.
After waking from that disturbing dream, I couldn’t drift back to sleep.
The clock on the wall showed five in the morning. Outside, the sky was covered in a thick gray-blue gloom.
With a soft sigh, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. I splashed my face with cold water, hoping to wash the dream away, but it lingered stubbornly in my mind.
Needing something to occupy my thoughts, I logged into Voss Group’s internal system.
The moment the homepage loaded, a notification popped up in the bottom right corner of the screen.
It was a reminder for an international online meeting Ethan was leading.
I immediately saw his familiar profile icon glowing on the participant list. My fingers paused for a brief second before I closed the meeting window.
I didn’t want him to think I was keeping track of his every move, and I had no desire to have any conversation with him that wasn’t work-related, especially this early in the day.
Only a few minutes later, though, my phone buzzed.
A message from Ethan appeared on the screen. “Why are you up so early?”
I looked at his text for a few seconds before remembering that he was in Nshire, where it was the middle of a busy workday because of the time difference.
I pursed my lips, then replied as casually as I could, “I had a nightmare and couldn’t get back to sleep. Go focus on your meeting.”
He replied immediately, “Okay.”
