Chapter 148:
“No, I won’t go!” Ivy lunged to stop me, but the moment she met the coldness in my eyes, her fingers slowly loosened from my hand.
I turned away and walked out. With every step I took, the guilt inside me grew heavier.
At that moment, there was only one thing I wanted more than anything. I needed to see Lianne.
I drove back to the company, but her office was empty.
I caught hold of an employee and demanded, “Where’s Lianne?”
“She took time off.”
I drove home next. The house was silent except for the maid, who was cleaning.
“Where is my wife?”
“She said she was going on a business trip. She packed some clothes and left.”

A business trip? I clearly remembered that nothing like that had been on her schedule.
She was hiding from me. Without a word, she was slowly pulling herself out of my life.
I called her again and again and kept sending messages, but all I got back was an automated reply.
“Noah, look into it! Find out where Lianne went!” I shouted into the phone.
Half an hour later, Noah called back. “I found her, sir. She went to Gattenwood. She bought the earliest train ticket.”
Gattenwood was a small, isolated city hundreds of kilometers away.
“Book the soonest flight. No, have a car prepared. I’m going there myself right now!”
I clenched my phone so hard my hand hurt, my heartbeat pounding so fiercely I could hardly breathe.
The mate bond was sending me a frantic warning.
If I failed to bring her back this time, the bond between us would be over.
I was going to find her no matter what.
Lianne’s POV:
Inside the suite at the Gattenwood Hotel, the AC was running cold, yet it did nothing to settle the heat churning inside me.
I sat at the wide desk with the Sparkle Jewelry Show proposal papers spread across it.
This was the last thing I still had left to hand over. Once the exhibition ended smoothly, the tenuous connection binding me to Voss Group, and to Ethan, could finally be severed completely.
A sudden, urgent knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts.
I pressed a hand to my throbbing temples, picked up my phone, and headed for the door. “Who is it?” I asked casually.
“It’s me, Lianne. There are a few details about tomorrow’s booth setup I want to confirm with you.” Bella’s voice came through from outside.
Without giving it much thought, I reached over and turned the doorknob.
But the instant the door opened a crack, the face that appeared was not Bella’s. It was Ethan.
My heart lurched, and my face immediately went cold.
Almost by reflex, I grabbed the handle with both hands and shoved the door toward closing. “Go away!”
Ethan moved before I could.
Just as the door was about to shut, he drove his foot into the narrowing gap and stopped it dead.
